Worm Farms

Mitcham Primary Schools New Worm Farm
Some very exciting things have happened this term. The Sustainability Monitors for each classroom have been busy building and maintaining the new worm farms. Students have had the opportunity to understand how a worm farm is built, how the worms eat the food scraps and what the worms then create- golden worm juice!
Apart from creating rich nutrient dense worm castings that students can water the garden and veggies with, it also reduces the amount of food scraps that go into landfill and therefore reduces harmful gases in the earth's soil. Students also get back to nature by understanding the land, the earth's resources and how we can best foster and care for the environment for many more years to come.
Some important tips to remember are what we can and cannot put into the worm farms and to ensure we eat the entire edible part of the food. Otherwise the worms cannot eat all that food!
