Changes to Gates

Effective from Tuesday,13 May 2025 the following changes to our gates will be enforced. These changes are aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of all students:

Morning Supervision and Gate Access

Teachers will be on duty from 8:40 AM each morning. Students can be supervised from this time onwards in the playground. To facilitate safe and orderly entry, Gates 1 and 6 will be opened at 8:40 AM. If anyone arrives prior to this time they will need to enter via the main gate (Gate 3) and go to Area 4 and sit and wait for the duty teacher. If you require supervision prior to 8.40am, there are two OOSH services that support our school, Fair Play OOSH and Active OOSH.

Gate Closure Times

All gates will be closed at 9:15am. Families arriving after this time must enter through Gate 3. This measure ensures that late arrivals are properly accounted for and that our school premises remain secure during teaching time.

Afternoon School Access

Gates 1, 3 and 6 will be open of an afternoon from 2.45pm.

Car Park Access

For the safety of our students, we kindly remind all families not to enter or exit through the car park gates. These areas are designated for staff and authorised personnel only.

There are minimal disabled car parks that are available in the main car park for families with children requiring these spaces.

Crossing driveways

We kindly ask families to remind their children to stop, look, and listen carefully before crossing any driveways, particularly near the Community Centre, as we've received reports of near misses involving students running across without checking for vehicles.

We are committed to ongoing student safety and appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Homework Policy

We have been reviewing our Homework Policy. The homework policy at Edgeworth Public School aims to guide the implementation of homework in a way that meets educational goals while considering the diverse needs of our community.

Scope: This policy provides a consistent approach to homework across the school, developed in line with the NSW Department of Education’s guidelines.

Approach: Recognising that community expectations vary, the school adopts a flexible homework approach. Homework is not compulsory, and time allocations may differ based on individual student needs.

Homework Guidelines:

  • Kindergarten: Generally no formal homework; reading books may be provided.
  • Years 1-2: Some formal homework like reading, writing, and basic math's activities may be assigned.
  • Years 3-6: Students will work more independently with varied homework, including reading and practicing math's concepts. Homework grids and mini projects will also be included.

Public Speaking Assessment: Students will prepare a speech at home for class presentations, with support materials provided.

Submission Consequences: Failure to submit homework will not result in school-level consequences, as the school understands that various factors can affect a student’s ability to complete homework.

Responsibilities:

  • Students: Understand the importance of homework, complete it on time, and seek help when needed.
  • Parents/Carers: Take an active interest in homework, set aside time for it, and support their child.
  • Teachers/Principal: Implement the policy, communicate expectations, provide feedback, and support students facing difficulties.

Communication: The policy will be communicated through classroom reminders, newsletters, ClassDojo, the school Facebook page, and the school website.

Complaints: Concerns should follow the school’s complaint process; unresolved issues can be escalated as per the department’s guidelines.

Review: The policy will be reviewed bi-annually, with the next review scheduled for May 2026.

We will share this policy at the P&C meeting on Monday 19 May and it will be updated on our school website.
