Mother's Day
To all mothers, aunties, grandmothers, and carers, we hope you had a very happy Mother’s Day. Your love and support are invaluable.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to our P&C and all the wonderful volunteers who worked tirelessly to organise the Mother’s Day stall. Your efforts made this event a wonderful celebration for our school community.
I would also like to express my gratitude to our staff for the exceptional MAGS breakfast. A special thank you went to Miss Kass Manolis and Miss Claire Stoltenberg for their dedication and hard work in making this event a success.
Our School Excellence Plan - An inclusive environment where we all feel safe, connected and are highly engaged.
We are pleased to inform you that over the last two terms, our school has been working diligently on our School Excellence Plan (SEP). This plan is a key part of our commitment to enhancing educational outcomes for all students at Edgeworth Public School.
In developing our School Excellence Plan (SEP), we have actively involved student voice through class visits and feedback, engaged parents through focus groups to gather their insights and perspectives, and collaborated with staff to review data and examine research-based practices. This comprehensive approach ensures that we are considering the experiences and needs of our entire school community, allowing us to create a plan that is informed by diverse viewpoints and grounded in effective educational strategies.
The School Excellence Plan for Edgeworth Public School outlines three strategic directions:
- Student Growth and Attainment: This direction focuses on understanding students' learning needs and ensuring that every student makes progress in their learning. Key initiatives include improving reading and numeracy outcomes through evidence-based practices, systematic assessment, and curriculum planning.
- Relational Pedagogy - Wellbeing for All: This direction aims to nurture a sense of belonging, connection, inclusion, and engagement among students. It includes initiatives to enhance student wellbeing, improve attendance, and create a supportive school environment that fosters positive relationships and high expectations.
- Organisational Pedagogy - Leadership for All: This direction emphasises building quality systems and capacity within the school to achieve the best outcomes for all. It involves developing staff as leaders, enhancing professional learning, and fostering a collaborative culture that supports continuous improvement and effective communication.
Each direction includes specific improvement measures, initiatives, success criteria, and evaluation plans to monitor progress and effectiveness.
We will be sharing more about our new School Excellence Plan at the P&C meeting on Monday 19 May at 6.00pm.
Enhancing Student Voice: Our New SRC Process
At Edgeworth Public School, we are committed to strengthening student voice and leadership in meaningful ways. In response to student feedback and in alignment with the Department’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) Policy, we are pleased to share some enhancements to our Year 2 - 6 Student Representative Council (SRC) process.
The SRC will continue to provide students with a platform to express their opinions on school life, including facilities, events and extracurricular activities. It also serves as an opportunity for students to demonstrate leadership, service, responsibility, and our school values- both in their role and as positive role models for others.
This year, we have refined our selection process to ensure it is purposeful, inclusive, and reflective. Key updates include:
- A student-led application process, where students complete an expression of interest form with guided self-reflection and a teacher endorsement.
- A stage-based review, with feedback provided to all applicants- both successful and unsuccessful.
- An anonymous peer voting system, conducted with eyes closed to avoid bias or popularity-based outcomes.
- A stage-level representation model, with the number of SRC members determined by the executive team after voting.
In addition, our elected School Leaders and Junior AECG representatives will be automatically included in the SRC as part of their ongoing leadership responsibilities. Once selected, SRC members will be inducted at a Primary Assembly and supported by teacher mentors throughout the year to grow their leadership capabilities.
Students will engage in the nomination process during Weeks 4 and 5, with voting and badge presentations to follow later in the term. We’ll keep families updated along the way.
We’re excited about this enhancement to student leadership at our school and look forward to seeing our students rise to the opportunity.
