We are so excited to share with you that we will be beginning construction on the new Primary Playground on Monday 26 February. With the safety of our community at the forefront, we will have fences around the perimeter of the lower playground - Leopard Terrace. This will impact one of our walkways from the amphitheatre to Primary Administration, and we kindly ask that you walk around the area on the other path. This may take an extra 2-3 minutes for those students who use the oval side of the Primary building. In terms of spaces to play at Morning Tea and Lunch, Palm Grove, the Oval, Year 6 area and the LRC will not be impacted, and staff will be working on a plan for students to play safely in these shared spaces.
For those of you who are new to our school this year or did not attend the 2023 Primary Presentation Day, please find a picture of one of the elements of our new playground below. In addition to this, we will be designing a new 'positions' area, constructing an interactive grassed area with tunnels, hills and interesting climbing apparatuses. Further underplanting in both Palm Grove and Leopard Terrace, with the addition of large trees for shade will complete the project. We will be monitoring air quality throughout the project, for students and staff who may be affected by the building works.

In Week 5, on Tuesday 20 February, Pre-Prep to Year 2 parents are invited to come and learn about our Excellent Start in the early years at Clayfield College. At this workshop you will learn how to support our classroom programs in Reading, Spelling and Numeracy, by assisting your child at home. You will find out how to ask comprehensive questions following reading, what are reading strategies, ways to practice spelling words, developing ideas in writing, and why number sense in important.
Please email lsutherland@clayfield.qld.edu.au if you would like to register your attendance.
On Tuesday, students in Years 4 to 6 and their families enjoyed an informative presentation on Internet Safety by Erin Cash. With Erin's extensive background in internet safety, she was able to provide real-life examples of the ease in which predators can infiltrate social networks. Practical tips and strategies were appreciated, and a recording was taken of Erin's presentation for those families who were unable to attend. I urge you to view this, as we live in a world where we must teach our children the balance between the important use of technology, and the dangers that come with this use.
There is an abundance of lost property from the Swimming Carnival last week, this includes play hats. If you are missing something, please come to Primary Administration to have a look.
