Learning in M27

Middle School Holley is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Visualisation!

M27 focused on visualising during reading in Week 5, with the aim to create/make pictures using their schema.  Students were presented with different objects (mainly sensory toys with a few random objects thrown in such as a frozen water bottle, plastic glove etc.), and they had to describe what it felt like to touch, if it smelt, what it was made of etc.

We used adjectives and onomatopoeia to describe what the objects felt like when we touched them with our eyes closed.  We were using our touch sense and creating images in addition to using our prior knowledge (schema) and using descriptive words.  Examples of words used to describe them were:

  • Stretchy
  • Spikey
  • Metal
  • Soft
  • Long
  • Hard
  • Cuddly
  • Plush
  • Ridiculous
  • Cold
  • Watery

Although some were hesitant to touch all objects, the vocabulary used to describe the objects was entertaining.  Their facial expressions proved a picture can tell 1000 words!

Some examples of objects they had to touch:

Our Narrative writing will surely impress all our readers five senses!
