Multicultural Committee News

We have made a rolling start to a jam-packed term one, for the 2024 school year. The Multicultural Committee held our first meeting on Monday 19 February at lunch time (12:45pm -1:30pm) in the Conference Room. Led by our school captains: Nivetha and Paris, it was an energising, vibrant and productive meeting. We covered events such as: Pako Festa, Harmony Day, and even brainstormed some theme ideas for this year's Multicultural Festival. Everyone enjoyed the special treats and yummy refreshments on offer!

We have honoured our ongoing tradition of NGSC partaking in the "Pako Festa Parade" on Saturday 24 February. Together with our Community/Cultural Captains Paris and Nya, students, staff and Multicultural Committee members proudly represented NGSC. Once again it was an excellent opportunity to showcase the diversity of our school in the Geelong community. We truly featured the rich multicultural tapestry in its full glory, in unity and appreciation of the diversity that makes NGSC special. To catch the latest on events in our NGSC community, join us at our next Multicultural Committee Meeting, Monday 18 March at lunch time(12:45pm), or watch this space.

Transitions

Over the past 2 weeks, Primary Schools from around the region have attended our annual Primary School visits to see what Secondary College is about and experienced some interactive classes. All of the students (and staff) were very excited to be a part of this event, participating in various activities from Physical Education, VR Goggles and Food Tech to Science and Art. As you can see from the pictures, there is a great deal of talent from around our local Primary Schools and these activities didn’t disappoint. The highlight was Science, making “Fluffy Slime” and a close second was Food Tech, with the students showing their cooking skills making pikelets.

The Primary Schools that have participated in this event so far are St Thomas Aquinas, Rollins, Newtown, Manifold Heights, Holy Family and Ashby. The smiles on the students faces said it all as they really enjoyed the few hours that they were here at North Geelong Secondary College.

Next week, we still have another 3 Primary Schools attending and they are: Bell Park North, Anakie and Herne Hill, the College looks forwarded to welcoming those Primary Schools too, for an adventure packed morning or afternoon full of fun activities and wonderful memories.
