3/4W

Term 1

3/4W has had a fabulous start to the year. We have been having lots of fun learning new things and getting to know each other.

Maths

In Maths we started a new topic of Mass. Students have been able to learn through hands-on activities and group work how much items in our classroom and our houses may weigh and order them, from lightest to heaviest.

Heidi: I'm excited to do more weighing and I’ve learnt a lot of stuff. It doesn’t matter how big something looks but how heavy it is.

Xavier: I liked helping to measure the weight of objects. I want to see what other people brought in and see how much they weigh.

Nickolas:  I liked how we were using the scales to measure the weight of something. Gurfateh: I love Maths and Mass because they are fun and I love everything.

Chris: The best subject I ever have at SJV is Maths because I got to learn with friends and I can learn new interesting stuff.

Literacy

In preparation for NAPLAN students have been learning about persuasive writing. Through group activities students have been able to discuss different topics and come up with reasons to support their opinions.

Shyla: I liked doing persuasive writing because you have to add strong words.

Evan: I learnt about persuasive writing. I liked it because it's enjoyable and it's more fun when you learn new things about persuasive writing.

Jayden T: I liked persuasive writing because you can learn how to persuade someone.

Felicia: I really liked doing the persuasive text this year because I like English.

Luke: I liked persuasive writing because it's fun to do, I wrote 2 whole pages and I love writing.

Asher: I’ve always really liked writing and I really like doing persuasive writing because I was learning new things.

Jack: I like how persuasive I can be and it's fun to write about.

Jayden V: Persuasive writing is ok because I’ve done it before.

Resilience Project

As you may be aware, our school is involved in The Resilience Project. The activities we complete are centred around gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. Each student has their own Resilience Project Journal to work through in our weekly Wellbeing lessons, following the sequence of the program for the year. As students showed an interest in discussing what they are grateful for, they each completed a hand print that listed 5 things they were grateful to have in their lives.

Hayden: I'm grateful for my family.

Lucinda: I have enjoyed learning about gratefulness because it was fun.

Zehra: I liked how we learnt about gratefulness and empathy, because it was fun.

Stella: I’m grateful for my family, friends, life, peace, nature, school and teachers, because they are the best in my life.

Tara: I’ve liked doing the Resilience Project because it's fun.

Christina: I like doing the Resilience Project because it's fun and I get to do lots of things.

Sia: I loved the Resilience Project hand activity because you could decorate it and also it would talk about gratitude. Also it would help to know what you’re grateful for.

Jaiden: I’m grateful for my life, family and friends.

RE

In Religion we have been learning about Lent and its importance. We learnt about the 3 main traditions of Lent which are Prayer, Almsgiving and Fasting. During a religion lesson we had to come up with a Lenten promise, in which we had to choose to either give up something or do an action for others.

Jasmine: I’ve liked learning about lent and so I liked decorating my foot with my Lenten promise.

Grace: I liked colouring in my foot that has my Lenten promise, because it was fun.

Noah: I liked the foot activity because the colouring in was fun.
