Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4KC

Last week our new compost captains for this semester were appointed.  They showed great pride when discussing their new role and the tasks they have to complete each week.  This Friday at assembly, they will be presented to the school and given their badges.  We thank these students for taking their job so seriously and ensuring our school remains committed to the production of quality compost and the reduction of food waste.

In the kitchen, the students and the volunteers have worked hard each week to prepare and share delicious food for us all to eat.  We have been able to use lots of produce from our garden to add to our meals each week. This includes silverbeet, potatoes, parsley, mint, spring onions, zucchinis, beetroot and a tiny pumpkin. We used these to help us add organic flavours into our recipes which included Minestrone soup, Pumpkin and spinach pasta bake, Corn salsa, Celery and carrot salad, Butter bean salad, Banana bread and our favourite Easy bread scrolls.

Thanks to the following parents and grandparents who have helped us in the last fortnight.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  These wonderful people are: Wendy (Naomi’s mum), Kathy (Luka’s Grandma), Lilly (Lucas’ Mum), Cassie (Zayden’s Mum) and Lesley (Bailey’s Mum).  We really appreciate the help they provided the students.  If you would like to help your child in 3/4KC for one of the final two sessions, please message me via Seesaw or email me at tsiegert@smdingley.catholic.edu.au

Have a great week and happy cooking!

Student Reflections:

Today my mum came to  SAKG. We had fun and we are trying new things, some stuff where bad. We did gardening. It was fun and I did it in the back garden. By Bailey

Today in the Eggplants group, we made a Pumpkin and Spinach pasta which had pasta, pumpkin, spinach, cheese and a type of cream. I learned how to make it and have fun at the same time. It was one of the best times of my life.  By Ayla

My group made some Banana bread. Ella and I kept on accidentally putting batter on our fingers. It was delish!  We used a potato masher to mash the bananas at the start then we added the other ingredients.  By G’zelle

I made the salad and it was so fun. I cut myself three times. By Lachlan

Today my group cut so many capsicums. We rolled lots of dough. We made yummy rolls.  By Luka

I’m in the tomato group and today we made very vegan banana bread. It had flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, baking powder, salt, canola oil and banana. To mix the ingredients we used a potato masher.  It was a little hard to mix.  By Whitney

I am in the eggplant group and we made a pumpkin and spinach pasta bake.  Also I cut myself for second time in two years in SAKGP.  By Levi
