Wellbeing and Inclusion Update

Welcome Back to Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2! I hope all of our families had a wonderful break and were able to enjoy some quality time together. I’ve recently returned from an overseas trip with my family, and while it was a fantastic experience, it also gave me the opportunity to reflect on the RICH values that underpin everything we do at Athol Road Primary School, Respect, Innovation, Community and High Expectations.
Travel provides so many authentic learning opportunities, and I found myself intentionally connecting these experiences to our school values with my own children.
Respect was a constant focus as we explored new countries and cultures. We spoke about the importance of respecting different customs, languages and ways of life, whether that was being mindful of cultural expectations, showing patience in busy environments, or simply demonstrating kindness to others.
Innovation came to life in the way we approached new experiences. From navigating unfamiliar places to problem-solving when plans changed, there were many opportunities to think creatively and adapt. We encouraged our children to be curious, ask questions and embrace new ways of doing things, skills that are so important in both learning and life.
Community was something we noticed everywhere we went. Whether it was observing how different communities connect, support one another, or celebrating shared experiences, it opened up great conversations about belonging and the importance of contributing positively to those around us. It also reinforced how special our own ARPS community is.
High Expectations were evident in the way we approached challenges throughout the trip. Travel can be tiring and at times unpredictable, but we spoke about maintaining positive attitudes, showing resilience, and striving to do our best, even when things felt difficult. It was a great reminder that high expectations are not just about achievement, but also about effort, persistence and mindset.
These experiences reinforced for me how powerful it is when our values are lived, not just taught. They are part of everyday moments, at school, at home, and even on the other side of the world.
As we begin Term 2, we look forward to continuing to embed our RICH values across all learning spaces, supporting our students to grow as respectful, innovative and connected members of our community who strive for their personal best.
Welcome back, I’m looking forward to a fantastic term ahead.
Connected, supported, thriving.
