Boarding 

A warm welcome to Term 2.

Term 1 was a busy and highly productive start to the year in the Boarding House. It has been wonderful to see the girls settle into routines, build strong connections, and embrace the many opportunities on offer.

A highlight of the last two weeks of Term 1 was the school production of Save Hamlet, where we were incredibly proud to see two of our Year 7 boarders take to the stage. Their confidence and commitment were outstanding, particularly so early in their boarding journey. It was fantastic to have around half of the Boarding House in attendance to support them, creating a lively and encouraging atmosphere. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all and was a great example of the strong sense of community within our Boarding House.

We look forward to another strong term and to seeing our boarding community continue to thrive.

Weekend Rec Activities

Week 9 of Term 1 - Puppy Yoga

The warm and sunny afternoon was perfect for Puppy Yoga at Bondi. We started with some gentle stretching and simple flow movements. After 10 minutes, the puppies were released into the yoga room, and with bonds of fluffy energy, they joined in (and sometimes distracted from) the yoga. The puppies were a mix of poodles and cavoodles that came from local breeders and are in their 8 week phase. They come to puppy yoga for socialising and learning to be with humans and our girls were happy to assist with teaching them these important skills. It really was an amazing hour, their cute energy was contagious, as they climbed into laps, onto backs and chewed at socks. Their small little cries for attention and playful tackling of each other left us defenseless to their charms. Some even got tired of playing and just fell sound asleep in laps and on yoga mats. We finished with some final poses and said goodbye to the puppies heading to Bondi for some yummy food and an obligatory YoChi. 

Week 1 of Term 2 - A thrifting adventure

As the party bus traveled over the ANZAC bridge leaving the Eastern suburbs behind, the girls were ready and locked in to sort through the treasures of Marrickville’s thrift shops. Getting our steps up visiting 4 thrift stores in total, there were many surprises to be found such as a vintage crochet singlets, a 3 wheeler pink tricycle, card games, some lovely high heel shoes and even a pair of Gucci slides. The find of the day was definitely Charlotte C’s fluffy Stitch onesie. A Marrickville day is never complete without a visit to Urchin Books, a trove of beautiful books, games and oddities. There was an amazing array of food on offer with the girls gathering sustenance at a range of places including GYG, Yo chi, Papa Flocks, Sugar Cain, Bánh mì and Maccas. It really was a day full of fun, lots of laughter and amazing second hand buys. 

Events

Save Hamlet!

In the final week of term, many of the girls in the boarding house had the pleasure of supporting Elle and Arabella (both Year 7) in the school production of Save Hamlet. The play offered a comical twist on Shakespeare’s original, with plenty of moments that had the audience roaring with laughter.

It was a remarkable achievement for our newest boarders, who have not only settled into boarding life, a new school and a new city, but for both girls, a new country as well. To take on the additional commitment of rehearsals and performance speaks volumes about their enthusiasm and resilience. We were incredibly proud of them.

Yo-Chi

Last week, our boarders enjoyed a well-earned midweek outing to Yo-Chi in Double Bay after dinner. With assessments now behind them, it was wonderful to see the girls making the most of some downtime, relaxing and spending quality time together.

The evening provided a simple but meaningful opportunity to unwind, with plenty of laughter, frozen yoghurt creations, and easy conversation. Moments like these are an important part of boarding life, allowing the girls to strengthen friendships and enjoy a balance between their academic commitments and social wellbeing.
