Learning how to get big ideas out of busy little heads and onto paper is hard work and the Preps have been doing an amazing job tackling this challenge head-on. Writing sentences does not happen overnight (if only it did!), but I am seeing some wonderful growth in confidence and independence.

We have been using the much-loved story Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins to explore sequencing, prepositional words (over, under, through), and retelling events in order. The excitement has really kicked in when students look back at the sentences they have written all by themselves. The smile on their faces says it all, “I did this!”

At this stage of Prep, the biggest goal is having a go. Choosing their own ideas, stretching out words, and bravely putting pencil to paper is a huge step. I am not worried about perfect spelling just yet, that will come. Right now, confidence comes first, and the students are showing it in spades.

Writing is a slow, tricky skill that takes persistence (and a lot of brain power!), and the Preps have been giving it their best effort. I am incredibly proud of their effort, resilience, and willingness to try, even when it feels tricky.
Well done, chickens, I am so proud of you all!
