Principal's Message

Laura Petrie

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been great to see the learning that is taking place in the classrooms over the past two weeks as I have had the opportunity to visit most classrooms during this time.  The students are busily working through their units of work, engaging in meaningful literacy and numeracy lessons and spending time focusing on school routines.

2027 PREP CONVERSATIONS

This week I have begun the process of meeting with the prospective 2027 Prep children and their families.  It has been so lovely to meet all of the children and also to listen to the positive comments, from parents, about our wonderful school.  Some of the comments include that our school is a very welcoming and supportive school community, our staff are very kind and caring and that we have wonderful learning opportunities and processes in place.  I look forward to continuing the Prep conversations next week.

NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Today was National Walk Safely to School Day and it was great to see the students getting involved with this initiative.  The message of safety when crossing a road is extremely important for children.  Please see some tips below:

Road Safety Tips for Kids

When walking with your children, remember these important pedestrian safety rules:

  • Stop: Always stop completely before stepping onto the road.
  • Look: Check both directions carefully for approaching vehicles.
  • Listen: Pay attention to sounds of traffic that may not be visible right away.
  • Think: Make sure it is safe before crossing the street.
  • Use Crossings: Cross only at designated pedestrian crossings, traffic lights, or with the help of a school crossing guard when available.

KISS AND DROP OFF REMINDERS

With the important message of safety mentioned above, it is a timely reminder to please use the pedestrian gate when walking through the Kiss and Drop zone.  A number of parents and grandparents are walking between the cars, which can be dangerous.  Thank you for your support with this important matter.

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK

Next week we are looking forward to learning more about National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week is an important time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to reflect on how we can contribute to a more respectful and inclusive future. Held each year from 27 May to 3 June, the week encourages communities to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. Through conversations, learning, and meaningful action, we can all play a part in building understanding, unity, and reconciliation within our schools and communities.

SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY

A reminder that on Monday 1st June the students will not be expected to attend school as we have a School Closure Day.  The staff will be involved in faith formation on this day, attending a full day of professional learning at the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre in East Melbourne. We look forward to learning more about the life and legeacy of Mary MacKillop and explore ways that we can live by her example in our daily lives.

YEAR 5/6 CAMP

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, our Year 5 and Year 6 students, along with their teachers, LSOs and other members of staff attended camp at Lake Dewar. The staff and students reported that they had a wonderful time at camp, despite some cooler weather.  I am sure that the students and staff slept well on Wednesday evening, upon their return.  I would, once again, like to thank all of the staff, who attended the camp, for their planning, preparation and dedication to ensure that the children had a wonderful camp experience.

Kind regards,

Laura Petrie
