From the
Head of Senior School
As we move into Week 2 of Term 2, I extend a warm welcome back to all members of our Senior School community. I hope the break provided time for rest, reflection, and connection with family and friends. A new term always brings with it a sense of renewal and with that, the opportunity to reset intentions, embrace challenges, and recommit to the pursuit of excellence.
Term 2 is one of the most dynamic and enriching periods of the school year. It is a time when learning deepens, co-curricular programs gather momentum, and our community comes together through shared experiences. From the classroom to the stage, the sporting field to the outdoors, our students continue to be presented with opportunities to grow - not only academically, but as people of character, courage, and compassion.
Last week, we marked the significance of ANZAC Day. It was wonderful to see such strong representation from our students across the Mountains, demonstrating respect, pride, and a deep understanding of service and sacrifice. Our students represented the School with distinction at dawn services, marches, and community commemorations, embodying the values of courage, mateship, and remembrance that sit at the heart of this important national day.
As the term progresses, there is much to look forward to. Our academic programs are now in full stride, with students engaging deeply in their courses and beginning to prepare for key assessment tasks. I encourage all students to stay organised, seek support when needed, and maintain consistent study habits. For our Year 12 students, this is a critical term - one that requires focus, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose as they continue their HSC journey.
Beyond the classroom, Term 2 offers a rich co-curricular program. The winter sport season is now underway, providing opportunities for teamwork, commitment, and school spirit each weekend. Our Senior Production rehearsals are gathering momentum ahead of performances later this term, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our students. In addition, the upcoming Athletics Carnival will be a highlight - an opportunity to celebrate participation, House pride, and community connection.
Our Outdoor Education programs will also see students stepping beyond their comfort zones, particularly through the Year 9 and Year 10 Wild Ed Expeditions. These experiences are invaluable in developing resilience, independence, and a deeper connection to others and the environment.
With the change of season, we also reaffirm our shared expectations. Blazers are now a compulsory part of the uniform to and from school, as well as for assemblies and formal occasions. High standards in uniform, attendance, and approach to learning are not simply rules - they are habits that support success and reflect pride in our School. Similarly, our mobile phone expectations remain clear: phones should be off and locked in students' lockers throughout the school day, allowing students to be fully present in their learning.
Strong partnerships between school and home remain essential. We encourage families to continue engaging with Schoolbox, monitoring assessment schedules, and supporting students in establishing effective routines at home. Open communication and shared expectations ensure that every student is well supported to achieve their best.
To our Year 12 students, your leadership continues to shape the tone of our Senior School. The way you approach your studies, support one another, and engage in school life sets a powerful example. To our younger students, this term is an opportunity to build momentum, take ownership of your learning, and actively contribute to our vibrant school community.
Above all, Term 2 is a time to be present, to get involved, and to strive for personal best. Each day offers a new opportunity to learn, to connect, and to grow. I look forward to all that we will continue to achieve together this term.
Warm regards,
Alicia Michielsen
