Trades

Welcome back to all students and parents for Term 2. Traditionally, Term 2 is one of the busiest periods of the school year, and the additional week this term will make it one that requires resilience, organisation, and sustained focus from students.
This term includes a wide range of activities and commitments, including the Ag College Seeding Program, Northwest Tour, local and home‑town winter sporting commitments, Surf Camp, AutoCAD and Technical Drawing short courses, the Cunderdin vs Narrogin Sports Day (Country Week warm‑up), trade tours, and Country Week.
Given the significant time students may be out of regular classes, it is essential that they remain mindful of their responsibilities. Students must ensure they continue to make consistent practical progress on their projects while also keeping up to date with all theory requirements. If students are unsure of their progress or require support, they are encouraged to communicate proactively with their teacher to ensure they remain on track.
Major Projects
Year 11 students are fast approaching the commencement of their major projects, which form a significant component of their Design and Technology courses. These projects require careful planning, sustained effort, and effective time management across the coming months. It is strongly recommended that parents and carers take the time to discuss with their child what they intend to design and manufacture, including the scope and complexity of the project.
Early planning is essential. Delays in ordering materials or changes to the design late in the process can significantly affect a student’s ability to complete their project to a high standard. Many materials require lead time for delivery, and workshops can become very busy as deadlines approach. Students who plan early, confirm their designs, and order materials promptly are far less likely to experience setbacks. Teachers will support students through the planning process, but parental awareness and support at home can greatly help keep students on track.
After Hours Workshop Access
The workshops are regularly available after school to provide students with additional time and support to work on their projects. These after-hours sessions are an excellent opportunity for students to catch up on missed time, refine their work, or make progress on larger and more complex projects that cannot be completed within normal class periods.
Recently, participation in these sessions has been limited. This will need to improve significantly if students undertaking large or ambitious projects are to complete them successfully and to the standard expected.
Students are strongly encouraged to make use of these sessions, particularly as project deadlines draw closer. Regular attendance can greatly reduce stress later in the term and allow students to work more safely and efficiently under teacher supervision.
