Open Night 2026: A Celebration of Community, Compassion and Curiosity

On the evening of Wednesday 1st April, Heathmont College proudly opened its doors to the wider community for our annual Open Night, and what an incredible success it was.

Across three sessions, we welcomed a large number of prospective families who were given the opportunity to experience firsthand the vibrant learning environment, strong sense of connection, and wide range of opportunities that make our college so special. From the moment families arrived, there was a genuine buzz across the school, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflected the very best of our community.

The evening began in the HOPE Centre with a series of student-led speeches that truly set the tone for the night. Our College Captains spoke with confidence, pride and authenticity, sharing their experiences and highlighting what makes Heathmont College unique. This was complemented beautifully by our Year 7 ambassadors, who spoke about their transition into secondary school with honesty and enthusiasm. Their voices were powerful, genuine and a wonderful reminder of the supportive and inclusive environment we strive to create.

From there, families were guided through the college on tours led by our exceptional student leaders. This was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the evening. Our students demonstrated incredible confidence, maturity and passion as they spoke about their favourite learning areas, shared personal experiences, and answered questions from families. Their pride in the college was evident in every interaction, and the way they represented Heathmont College was outstanding.

Throughout the tours, families explored a range of learning areas including Technology and STEAM, The Arts, Food Technology, Science, Health and Physical Education, and Performing Arts. Each space was alive with activity, conversation and engagement, giving visitors a real insight into both the breadth of our curriculum and the dynamic way learning takes place at our school. The evening concluded in the Learning Centre, where families had the opportunity to connect with staff from across all subject areas, as well as learn more about wellbeing supports and pathways.

We received a significant amount of positive feedback from families, many of whom commented on the welcoming environment, the strong relationships between staff and students, and the genuine sense of belonging that was felt throughout the night. It was clear that our college values are not only spoken about, but lived every day.

Events like Open Night are only possible thanks to the collective effort of our entire school community. We would like to sincerely thank all staff and students involved in the organisation, preparation and running of the evening. From the detailed planning behind the scenes, to the engaging displays, conversations and experiences on the night, every contribution played an important role in making the event such a success.

We are incredibly proud of what was achieved and grateful to be part of such a dedicated and supportive community.
