The Boy at the Back of the Class
by Onjali Q. Rauf
Reflection: Shona & Monica 4B
The book is about a girl and her friends who try and help their refugee friend - Ahmet. He ran away from his home, Syria, to London because of war. His sister sadly passed away and his parents were lost. The government were going to “close the gates,” which means no refugees could come into London. The girl and her friends planned to go to the Queen’s Palace to give her a letter about the “gates closing” and see if they could help find Ahmet’s parents. They went on a great adventure to help their new friend.
We learnt to do what you think is right even if you can’t make a big difference, you should try your best. You never know the outcome!
(Read the book to find out if Ahmet and his parents are reunited!)
On Tuesday the 29th of October we had our first Fire Ed session.
During the session the Firefighters from the Deer Park Station talked to us about the difference between good fires and bad fires, showed us how to crawl low in smoke and what an emergency is. We got to see a Firefighter in their firefighting gear and talked about what a safe meeting place could look like in at our home.
It was a great session, and we can’t wait to see the fire truck next week!
