SCHOOL OF POSSIBILITIES

Year 10 and Unit 2 VCE Exams: Monday November 18 - Friday November 22

Timetables have been released for Year 10 and Unit 2 VCE exams. Parents can view these on PAM and students have a copy both on SIMON and in their inbox. During the exam period, families are reminded that classes for Year 10 and 11 students are not running and students only need to attend for the times they have exams scheduled. For bus travellers or students who can not safely arrive and leave throughout the day, a study space will be set aside for you to use. It is the responsibility of families to ensure they are aware of the whereabouts of their students during the exam week. If students are not attending school to sit an exam or use the assigned study space, they must be at home preparing for their exams and not engaging in social activities or be employed. Students engaging in exams may attend school in casual dress. Yr 11 VCE-VM students will attend school during this time, as per their regular timetable. VCE-VM students do not sit exams but regular classes continue. For some students, attendance will be essential during this time as this will be their last opportunity to complete all work modules and assessment tasks required for the successful completion of their Unit 2 VCE- VM studies. They are required to wear their school uniform.

Early Commencement Program (ECP)

Students currently  in Year 10 and 11 will commence their 2025 VCE units of study. The Early Commencement program runs from Monday 25 November until Friday 6 December. During this program, students will engage in learning opportunities that are crucial to their preparation for the 2025 school year. Students from Year 10 will begin their Unit 1 and 2 VCE courses and students in Year 11 will begin their Unit 3 and 4 courses. Where possible, students will be taught by their 2025 teachers. All students who will study VCE at St Anne’s in 2025 are expected to attend this full program. Students who do not attend during this time for valid reasons, such as illness or medical appointments, will be required to complete the work set by their teachers to ensure they stay up-to-date with their peers. This expectation applies to both VCE and VCE-VM students. We request parental support in ensuring students attend this program. Students not returning to St Anne’s in 2025 are not required to attend and are encouraged to engage with their workplace or future place of education during this time.

Purchase of English Texts for ECP

Families are asked, where possible, to source Unit 1 and Unit 3 English texts for ECP. Students in Unit 1 English (current Yr 10 students) will need to source a copy of Tim Winton’s The Turning. Students in Unit 3 will need to source a copy of Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle. These texts can be purchased second hand, or from Campion Education, 12 Telford Drive, Shepparton.

Year 11 Leadership Day

All Year 11 students will attend a leadership day on Thursday 5 December at Belcibo in Shepparton. Students will travel to the venue via bus and will be dismissed at 2.30pm and will be required to make their own way home.  The day will be run by Kate Wilde from the Human Development Workshop. Students will partake in a variety of workshops based on working together as a group and becoming leaders of the school. Morning tea and lunch will be provided for all students at Belcibo.  All students are expected to be in attendance on this day, it should be a fun day.  This will be the last school day for our Year 11 students for the 2024 school year.

Year 10 Food Studies

LET'S TACO ‘BOUT HOW DELICIOUS THIS IS…

This week our Year 10 Food Studies classes have bought to life their Term 4 "Fake Away" project. Weeks of research, planning and development has gone in to designing a healthier spin on a popular take away of their choice. Students were required to consider all constraints to come up with a delicious meal for presentation that would also satisfy their tastebuds.

Students broke into teams and worked together to produce Hungry Jack’s-inspired Halal Burgers and Jelly Slice, Big Mac Tacos as seen on TikTok and Instagram, a healthy spin on the popular Chinese dish Sweet’n’Sour Chicken and rice, and an American inspired Raising Cane’s chicken tenders served in a half bun with salad and dipping sauce.

The second class served up a Macca’s inspired Smash burger made with grass-fed beef, organic ingredients and low fat cheese, a KFC Zinger inspired burger – baked not fried, a Macca’s Quarter Pounder-inspired Hamburger and a KFC inspired healthy Zinger meal with no preservatives, including soda water and homemade chips to complete the combo. The results were both colourful and delicious, as the students jumped in to devour their creation.

Year 11 VCE-VM Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills

VOLUNTEERING FOR A GREAT CAUSE

This week we were delighted to host Chloe and Natalie from the GV Pregnancy and Family Support Service to begin a volunteering partnership with the service.

Students in Year 11 VCE VM Work Related Skills (WRS) and Personal Development Skills (PDS) classes have assisted the service by volunteering their time to clean and prepare prams for donation.

The curriculums for WRS and PDS incorporates the continuation of developing skills for the workplace and engaging with the community to be able to give back. The partnership with the Caroline Chisholm society perfectly aligns with this course requirement.

Thank you to the Shepparton News who came out to cover this awesome partnership and what our students have been doing to support the service. You can read more about the partnership in the Shepparton News article here: https://www.sheppnews.com.au/news/students-push-for-support/

Unit 2 VCE VM Literacy Project

As part of Unit 2 VCE VM Literacy Outcome 2 - Responding to Opinions, students explored the use of persuasive language when expressing opinions.  They completed a song analysis of Archie Roach's 'They Took the Children Away' and then created their own music to express an opinion.

The assessment task required them to write song lyrics that emphasised the importance of an issue facing young people and an issue that was important to them. Students wrote their lyrics and then used AI technology to create music and vocals for their lyrics to create a song.

The UNIT 2 VCE VM LITERACY JUKEBOX is a compilation of all of their songs which can be accessed via the following link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1WEbcwPVzWPQKmE7wmOk9V1T_PpkC9vrFhVDQwc7k7P0/present?usp=sharing

Instructions:

  1. Open the link
  2. Click to play the presentation
  3. Click on each track number on the jukebox to play each student’s song

The students have done an AMAZING job on this task! We are so PROUD of them!

We hope you enjoy their music!
