Year 4 Newsletter
Dear parents,
Isn't it lovely to enjoy some warm weather? A highlight this week was student’s involvement in some mixed Thursday afternoon activities with year 5 students. This is a smooth way for students across the two levels to meet and get to know one another in preparations for our multi age classes in 2025.
What's happened in year 4 this week?
English – This week we have continued our novel study! While reading Matilda by Roald Dahl, the students have been planning and writing their own narrative.
Maths – This week the students have been learning all about Algebra. Including finding unknown values in numerical equations involving addition and subtraction, using the properties of numbers and operations and using balance scales and informal uniform units to create addition or subtraction number sentences. This will continue next week (week 4) also.
Inquiry - This week in Inquiry, we delved deeper into the characteristics of the continent of South America.
We have now completed the introduction of our ‘at home project’ and your child, by now, will have chosen an African or South American Country they would like to research. This week, we have sent home a project checklist. Students need to complete all the tasks each week, and bring it back to their teacher by the dates outlined. The first component of research ‘Starting Out’ is due to be returned to us by NEXT Thursday 31st October. We are more than happy for homework to be completed BEFORE the assigned date. We encourage students to be up to date each week by following the checklist, ticking off as they go and having a parent/guardian assist with research and sign their work each week.
Wellbeing - This week in wellbeing the students explored the notion of trust and who is trustworthy. They created a list of five trusted people who they would seek help from.
Homework:
- Minimum 4 nights reading with at least 80 minutes per week recorded in school diary (Book title, pages read, minutes read).
- Diary is to be brought to school each Friday signed by parents.
- Mathletics tasks will be optional whilst students are completing the ‘at home project’. We will set tasks weekly to support topics in the classroom. Certificates will be awarded for those choosing to complete the tasks.
- At home project - The first component of research ‘Starting Out’ is due to be returned to us by NEXT Thursday 31st October.
