SMALL SCHOOLS PUBLIC SPEAKING

Our school was delighted to host the 27th Annual Boggabri & District Small Schools Public Speaking Competition sponsored by Boggabri Rotary Club in the final week of last term. This event is a great opportunity for our local children to plan, prepare and deliver a speech to share in a larger forum. It also enables children from across these small schools an opportunity to connect and network, hopefully building new friendships or rekindle old ones that have already started.

One hundred and twenty-seven students from Sacred Heart School, Boggabri Public School, Curlewis Public School, Fairfax Public School, Mullaley Public School and Premer Public School along with teachers, family and community members were welcomed to the competition.

We are extremely grateful to the Boggabri Rotary Club who once again sponsored this wonderful event also providing timekeepers on the day and a free sausage sizzle lunch for all in attendance, as well as the book prizes and trophies for the winners of each section.

Even though the Rotary Club currently has only 11 members, they have continued to sponsored this competition allowing our local students to master their public speaking skills.

We would also like to send a huge thank you to the adjudicators on the day who travelled from Gunnedah and the Central Coast providing encouragement and effective feedback to the children. Thank you Meryl Hennessy, Marg Amos, Ben Hennessy and  Julie Glover. We appreciate the time and effort you gave us out of your own busy schedules.

Many thanks to our members of the Sacred Heart Parents, Teachers & Friends Association who ran the coffee stall on the day selling delicious homemade sweets and coffee, it was a huge success. Special mention to Mrs Georgie Carrigan for once again donating the use of her coffee van.

And last but not least, a massive thank you to Mrs Jenny Darley and Ms Robyn Traynor who spent many hours behind the scenes coordinating the event and making sure that the day ran smoothly, which it most certainly did.

SAMARITAN'S PURSE BOXES

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. It is a hands-on way for you to bless children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and fun gifts. They collect the boxes and distribute them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in vulnerable situations.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Mrs Jo Tailby has been filling boxes for at least 10 years for this very worthy cause and last term our students were excited to help her fill the boxes.
