Prep inquiry unit on living things

This term, Prep students have started a new unit of inquiry about sharing the planet.

Our first job was to brainstorm about how to identify living and non-living things. We came up with the idea that living things will grow and move, they can breathe, and they will need water, the sun and food to grow. Students then gave examples of living and non-living things they noticed in and outside of school. They agreed that people, plants, trees, flowers and animals are living things. They then completed a writing task about living things with students choosing one living thing and then composing a sentence about what their living thing needs to survive.

Prep have also been growing beans to see how plants grow.

Below are some photos of our Prep students carefully watering their beans and showing you their writing about the living thing they chose.

Year 6 Trip to Government House

As part of our unit on government Year 6 students recently visited Government House, an exciting opportunity to learn more about how our country is governed. In preparation for the visit, the students engaged in discussions about the role of government and its various functions, ensuring they were ready with thoughtful questions.

On arrival, the students were warmly greeted by the Governor, who gave an insightful talk in the ballroom about her role and responsibilities. Our tour guide, Professor Chalmers, led us through the grand rooms of Government House, where we learned about its history and significance. A special highlight was meeting their beautiful border collies and seeing the amazing trees planted by various dignities from other countries.

Mr Scott and I were especially proud of how respectful the students were throughout, impressing the Government House staff with their attentive listening and courteous behaviour.
