Year 8 Kryal Castle Excursion

The Year 8 students visited Kryal Castle in Ballarat to participate in the Education Discovery Program which explores the Medieval period of history that we are now studying. They learned about Medieval Dance and the ancient art of leather stamping where they each made a bag tag/bookmark to take home. 

Students honed their archery skills. They learned about the history of weaponry and armour and how it has evolved throughout the ages. Students had a chance to feel and try on knight’s helmets, gauntlets, gambesons, breastplates and chain mail. 

Finally, Year 8s participated in some sword training and learned the proper use of a sword and shield. Using their newly gained skills they re-enacted the Battle of Hastings and the strategies used in battle. It was a very apt and dramatic ending to a Medieval Day!
