Dear Parents/Carers,

As the Wellbeing Coordinator, I’m always reflecting on how we can nurture the emotional and social wellbeing of our students, both at school and at home. One powerful way to do this is through meaningful conversations that help children feel heard, supported, and connected to their families. With the busy schedules we all manage, it can sometimes be challenging to draw out much more than a “fine” or “good” when we ask our children how their day was. However, the quality of the questions we ask can make a big difference in the depth of the conversation that follows.

I’d like to share a simple way to connect with your child at the end of each day—by asking positive, open-ended questions. These types of questions can help children reflect on their day, share their feelings, and feel more connected to you.

Here are some great questions to get the conversation started:

Positive Questions to Ask at the End of the Day:

  1. What made you smile today?
  2. What’s something new you learned?
  3. Did someone do something kind for you, or did you do something kind for someone else?
  4. What was a challenge you faced, and how did you deal with it?
  5. Who did you enjoy spending time with today?
  6. What are you proud of today?
  7. What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

These questions can lead to deeper conversations and help your child feel more supported. Give them a try and see how they can bring you closer!

Warm regards,

Melina
