Last Friday six of our 2025 Student Leaders represented St George’s Anglican Grammar School at the WAASA Year 11 Student Leaders’ Day. This annual forum brings together emerging leaders from various Anglican schools across WA, offering a unique opportunity to network, share insights and refine their understanding of leadership. Here’s what some of our leaders had to say about their day of inspiration and growth.
Alison White – School Captain
"The highlight was making connections with other student leaders from different schools and learning about their approaches to leadership. We learned about different leadership styles and how we can incorporate these insights into our own legacy as leaders.”
Ava Watters – Community & Service Captain
“The WAASA leadership forum was an amazing experience and a great way to explore different leadership styles. Being placed in groups with students from other schools pushed us to mingle and build new connections. My favourite activity was the labyrinth walk, where we took time to reflect and centre ourselves. I also enjoyed gathering ideas from other schools to share with our St George’s Leadership team.”
Ben Humphreys – School Captain
“For me, the highlight was making friends and learning from diverse leaders from various schools like Christ Church, Hale, St Mary’s and St Mark’s. Each school had different leadership roles, from prefects to house captains, and we also gained insights from teachers and representatives. It was definitely a worthwhile experience.”
Rory Bingham – Gandhi House Captain
“Last Friday’s WAASA Leadership Forum was an incredible experience, allowing me to connect with students from schools such as Christ Church, Swan Valley and All Saints. We explored what it means to be a leader, learning about leadership styles such as laissez-faire, servant, and charismatic leadership. One memorable moment was during the chapel service when everyone sang together, creating a powerful sense of pride and community. I look forward to reconnecting with these schools and students next year.”
Our leaders returned from the WAASA Student Leaders' Day inspired and ready to apply fresh insights to their roles at St George’s. Through these lessons, our leaders gained an understanding of how to adapt their leadership to various situations, helping them connect more effectively with students across different year groups.
The students also built connections with peers from other schools, which has given them new ideas for fostering inclusivity and school spirit at St George's. Our student leaders are committed to applying these insights to build a culture that values every voice, celebrates diverse talents, and strengthens the bonds within our school. We are excited to see how they will bring these lessons to life in the coming year, making St George’s an even more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant community.
