People's Choice Award

Winner of the People's Choice

Over the past 10 days, visitors to our Art Exhibition at 140 St Georges Terrace have been quietly adding their vote to the People’s Choice award ballot – and the results are now in!

The winner of the 2024 People's Choice Award is Emily Muir for her artwork: Exploration of Serenity. This award follows the presentation of our Principal’s awards on opening night - to Georgia Rose Dewar for her digital self-portrait as part of her installation Moths to the Flame, and to Emily for the fine pen and ink work above.

Opening night - on Tuesday, 22 October – was a fabulous event with entertainment provided by our wonderful musical duo Sadie Tibbitts and Isla Andrews, who set a relaxed tone.

Visual Art and Design students shared their works with family members and the wider school community while relishing that sense of achievement earned after a term, semester, year or - in some of cases - five years of intensive creative arts learning.

One of the works has caught the attention of frozen yoghurt chain Yo Chi who contacted the school with a desire to purchase Star Sherlock's ceramic piece on display (pictured).

"I was inspired by the orignal brand and when we had to choose a dessert to make out of clay I thought I would be different from everyone and do a huge realistic Yo Chi bowl,'' Star said. "When my bowl was sculpted, fired and glazed it went into the art exhibitition like normal and I didn't think anything of it. Then I got a message from Ms Wohlnick saying that Yo Chi had looked at my art and is interested. They have sent me emails about it.''

A diverse range of media was included in this year’s show such as paintings, model making, ceramics, textiles, digital art, sculpture, photography and drawing. Students explored a wide range of topics from simple aesthetic decorations to world politics including protest, identity, race and gender-specific topics. Some students simply had fun with humorous reflections on society or their own perspective on life.  A slightly larger than usual installation this year graced the newly renovated space in the foyer at 140 St Georges Tce. A reflection of our growing school numbers, the works were strong with many outstanding examples of artistic expression evident in the show.

Thanks to all involved, especially Ms Michelle Hyland for her expertise and hard work and to the Year 10 - 12 student assistants who worked tirelessly to make the night a success.

If you missed out on our charity bowl sales at the show, we have more in production and available for Christmas, so please look out for notices later in the term.

The exhibition closed today. Until next time, stay well and creative!
