The Laurence Library

From spooky to festive

As we are well and truly into our final term for 2024, subtle changes are beginning to appear at The Laurence Library, setting the stage for an exciting few weeks ahead. With Halloween this week, we have embraced the spooky spirit by decorating the library with some ghosts and bats, and a few black spiders and cats hiding away if you know where to look!

It is the perfect backdrop for diving into a good mystery and, in keeping with the theme, I have picked up The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie. This classic was recommended by a few past students, and I am thoroughly enjoying the suspenseful journey with Hercule Poirot.

As we move into the second half of our final term, the library will soon transition from spooky to festive. After Halloween, our Christmas decorations will go up, making The Laurence Library feel even more inviting as we get into the festive mood – I love Christmas!

We have placed themed sections for the current season to our shelving end-caps for those students wanting to get into the spirit of things. These are the ends facing you as you come into the library. This is currently displaying more than 30 spooky reads for you to check out which will soon transition into something more Christmas-like, with some room for creative interpretations. After all, the Die Hard film is technically a Christmas movie, right?

The Library Team hopes these changes will bring a sense of joy and warmth to all as we wrap up the final month of the term together.

Puzzle Club

After three terms of steady progress, a 1000-piece puzzle is now complete! This was a collective effort of eleven students who participated in Puzzle Club at various times. The puzzle is an artwork featuring 1200 things that all begin with the letter ‘S’. We’ve had fun identifying them as we completed the puzzle together. Slippers, saxophone, Sweden, snapper, skiers. . . . The following students contributed to the completion of the puzzle: Isaiah C, Elijah F, Benjamin H, Abi J, Charles L, Ashdin M, Tahala M, Zara M, John S, Tomas W and Cate W
