YEAR 7 2025 || A huge thank you to all the Year 7 families of 2025 who attended our information evening last night. A special shout-out to our current students for their insightful presentations and amazing musical performances. Thank you to our wonderful Parents' Association for providing yummy cupcakes, adding a lovely touch to the night. We can’t wait for Orientation Day and all the exciting adventures ahead!

FAREWELL YEAR 12 || What an incredible week it’s been, filled with laughter, memories and fun. Today, we wrapped up our onsite celebrations with a Farewell Breakfast and whole-school Assembly, followed by a memories video and, of course, the signing of uniforms and distribution of yearbooks. As is now tradition, our Year 7s formed a guard of honour to farewell our Year 12s as they left the assembly for the last time – a symbolic moment that captures the essence of our school community. We can’t wait for the much-anticipated Graduation Dinner at the MCG next week – next stop, exams! Your future is bright, Class of 2024!

BSC LADIES’ LUNCH || A HUGE thank you to our amazing Parents' Association for orchestrating yet another wonderful Ladies’ Lunch! The afternoon was filled with fun, connection and great energy. Special thanks to Zoe Daniel MP for joining us as our guest speaker and delivering such an inspiring presentation. ARCHITECTURE SITE ANALYSIS || Yesterday, our Year 9 & 10 Architecture students had an insightful day at Chadstone Shopping Centre, conducting a site analysis as part of their PBL. They explored existing and upcoming commercial spaces, gaining valuable insights into the real-life context and demands of Commercial Architecture. This experience will enrich their projects and enhance their understanding of the field.

EXPLORING LIGHT REFRACTION || Our Year 8 BEST students delved into the fascinating world of science with a cow eye dissection, exploring lenses and the principles of light refraction! It was an engaging hands-on experience that sparked curiosity and deepened their understanding of how we see the world around us.

GEOGRAPHY FIELDWORK CAMP || Our VCE Unit 2 Geography students attended their fieldwork camp at Phillip Island this week! They explored the environmental, social, economic and cultural impacts of tourism in the region, with visits to key locations like The Penguin Parade and The Nobbies. As part of their commitment to environmental stewardship, the students participated in a beach cleanup, collecting plastic and other debris to help preserve the local ecosystem. They also investigated both local and global tourism, evaluating strategies to enhance positive impacts while addressing the balance between supporting tourism and respecting the environment and the needs of the local community.

YEAR 9 COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS PROGRAM || Our second group of Year 9 students have commenced the Community Connections Program. This initiative fosters social awareness and character development through volunteering. Students have chosen placements at local schools and early learning centres, and it’s great to see them making a difference!

UNCOVERING THE ANCIENT SECRETS OF BEAUMARIS BAY || This week, our Year 9 & 10 DNA to Dinosaur students explored life in Beaumaris Bay from over 5 million years ago! They enjoyed a fascinating incursion with palaeontologist Ben Francischelli, who shared stories, fossil evidence and his research from this unique site.

YEAR 7 CULTURAL DAY || Our Year 7 students participated in our annual Cultural Day on Thursday! They immersed themselves in French and Japanese language and culture while also exploring the diversity of other cultures through a variety of exciting incursions. Highlights included First Nations experiences, a French circus, Japanese Taiko drumming and ink painting. The delicious crepes from Crepes for Change were a hit, and all proceeds will support youth homelessness. It was a fantastic day of fun, learning and embracing cultural diversity!

ADA LEAPS TO NATIONALS || A HUGE congratulations to Year 7 student Ada S for her outstanding achievement at the Victorian All Schools Track & Field Championships at Lakeside Stadium today! Representing Beaumaris Secondary College, Ada took out 1st place in the Under 14 High Jump with an impressive 163cm jump. Next stop: All Schools Nationals in Brisbane - Go Ada!

BEST OF LUCK CLASS OF 2024 || Wishing our amazing Year 12 students the best of luck as they embark on their first exam tomorrow. We also wish our Year 11 students enrolled in a Unit 3/4 subject all the best for their exams. Stay focused and put your best foot forward—we’re all behind you!

YEAR 8 HOCKEY TEAM ADVANCES TO STATE FINALS! || Our Year 8 Hockey team brought their A-game at the Southern Region Final today! Winning 5-0 and 4-0 in the first rounds, they took on the toughest team in the final and came out on top with a solid 1-0! On to State level—well done to all players!

MONDAY 28 OCTOBER 2024 

EXPLORING COASTAL CHANGE || Today, our Year 9 & 10 Sustainable Development students took their learning beyond the classroom, conducting fieldwork on the Mornington Peninsula as part of their Coastal Change and Management unit! Visiting Blairgowrie, Portsea, Sorrento and McCrae, they gathered valuable data through mapping, observing and measuring the dynamic coastal landscapes. This firsthand experience will support their Term 4 PBL as they explore real-world coastal management strategies and the impacts of environmental change.

TUESDAY 29 OCTOBER 2024 

BRINGING HISTORY TO LIFE WITH HAWK || Our Year 7 & 8 High Abilities Wider Knowledge (HAWK) students stepped back in time today, tackling a history-based Virtual Reality Escape Room. They also navigated a teamwork scavenger hunt at Queen Victoria Market and topped it off with a mock trial at the Old Magistrates' Court!

CRACKING THE CASE WITH BLOOD TYPING || Our Year 9 & 10 CSI students recently took on the role of forensic scientists, using blood typing techniques as part of their CSI unit. Their hands-on experience with real-world lab skills made for an exciting and insightful learning opportunity!

CELEBRATING OUR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS || Congratulations to Mia W, Lachie B, Sophie P, Lua C, Aeysha G and Angus D, each of whom received a $2,500 university scholarship on Graduation night, thanks to the generosity of a wonderful local community member, Bridget Hsu-Hage. We have no doubt that these scholarships will be put to excellent use!

REGIONAL BASKETBALL RUNNERS-UP || A huge congratulations to our Year 8 Boys Basketball team, who were crowned runners-up in the SMR Championships today! The boys dominated their pool, winning all three games convincingly, before falling short to Berwick in the final.

NEW WEATHER METERS IN ACTION || Kestrel 2500 Weather Meters, purchased with the Curriculum Innovation Funds for 2024, are now available for Geography fieldwork data collection. These devices measure wind speed, temperature and air pressure, providing students with hands-on experience with real-time weather data. The VCE Geography class had the first opportunity to use the Kestrels at the Phillip Island Camp last week, collecting accurate data for their upcoming Geography Unit 2 Fieldwork SAC. Additionally, the weather meters were utilised this week during the Year 9 & 10 Sustainable Development Fieldwork excursion, further enhancing our students' learning experiences. A BIG thank you to our parents for their contributions that make this learning possible!

LEGAL STUDIES MIND MAP COLLABORATION || Our Unit 1 & 2 Legal Studies students teamed up to create a dynamic mind map, delving into key concepts together. This collaborative activity encouraged deep discussion, as students shared insights, connected ideas and explored the foundations of our legal system. The end result was a colourful and comprehensive mind map, showcasing their understanding and teamwork in Legal Studies!
