Problem of the Week
By Trudy Gau
Congratulations to Molly T (2B) who was our winner last week and earned the title, 'Problem Solver of the Week'.
Unfortunately, no-one was able to correctly solve the door problem. Interestingly, this problem came from a Y6 paper when I taught in the UK. Please see below for the solution.
Problem of the Week: (I have decided to do 4 levels of spice this week - you choose the one that suits you)
Mild:
You walk into a barn and see a collection of spiders, chickens, and cows. You note that in total, there are 60 legs. How many cows, chickens and spiders could there be in the barn?
Medium:
You walk into a barn and see a collection of spiders, chickens, and cows. You note that in total, there are 150 legs. How many cows, chickens and spiders could there be in the barn?
Spicy:
You walk into a barn and see a collection of spiders, chickens, and cows. You note that in total, there are 320 legs. How many cows, chickens and spiders could there be in the barn?
Extra Hot:
You walk into a barn and see a collection of spiders, chickens, and cows. You note that in total, there are 320 legs. The number of chickens is twice the number of cows, and the number of spiders is twice the number of chickens. How many spiders are there?
