Year 7

Assistant Principal's Report

Well done to all year 7 students for their resilience throughout the first half of the year. They have had many changes and many new experiences since they joined our college. It has been great to see students participate so well in everything that the college has had to offer and the opportunities they have been given. Students have recently swapped into semester 2 which will give them an opportunity to try another language and two more electives so they can continue to experience a breadth of subjects.

One new experience that students have had this week is ‘A Night at the Museum’. This is one of my favourite events of the year as it is amazing to see students unique and thoughtful presentations based on an area of study in Humanities. The student’s creativity never ceases to amaze me.

A reminder that students need to be coming in full school uniform each day. This helps set themselves up for success each day along with the organisational time each morning to be ‘in uniform, on time and ready to learn’. If your child requires assistance with uniform, please get them to speak to their tutor teacher.

I would like to wish all students and their families a safe and restful holiday break, and look forward to working collaboratively with families to ensure every child reaches their full potential.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 7

As we conclude another dynamic and successful school term, I’m excited to share some highlights and achievements that have made this term memorable. From healthy habits being formed, sporting achievements, future planning to academic accomplishments, our Year 7 students have truly excelled.

Healthy Habits

  • Sticks and Stones – We started the term with a production called Sticks and Stones about bullying and how words and behaviours can hurt others. The students learnt some valuable strategies to deal with bullying.
  • Immunisations – Many students had their first immunisations at school. They recognised the importance of being immunised to keep themselves and others safe.
  • Man Cave and Big Sister Experience – While learning important information about growing up from either the Man Cave or Big Sister Experience, our Year 7s representing our school with pride as they all showed our guests with respect, cooperation and excellence.
  • Wellbeing Day – Although the day was cold, students participated in a range of activities that were around building healthy habits and challenging ourselves. These activities ranged from physical activities – Ninja Warrior, Laser Tag, Zorbing and Football Darts, wellbeing activities – Mindfulness, Regulation and Yoga and Team Building Challenges – our Photo Challenge. The photo challenge included getting the students to complete creative challenges around the school. Congratulations to 7H, who received the most points for being creative and having the most students involved.
  • Regulation workshops – The Year 7s will continue their learning of how to regulate next term. Students have already been seen using their strategies in their classrooms.
  • Healthy Minds – Our students have finished their Healthy Minds building this week. It has been great seeing and hearing students using the language of having a Healthy Mind.

Sporting Achievements

  • Athletics Carnival – at Victoria University Athletics Track. Many of our Year 7s participated in the events, showing that they could compete against students from other year levels with pride. A huge thank you to the House Captains who helped with Sign Ups and recruiting students on the day. Congratulations to YELLOW HOUSE for winning the Athletics Carnival.
  • Cross Country – all Year 7s gave their best in our annual Cross Country at Presidents Park. It was great to see parents come and cheer on our students and offer support on the day.

Future Planning

  • Jobs Expo – The Year 7s have had their worlds opened by meeting members of our Alumni (past students) from varying fields. Students got the opportunity to ask questions about their careers and how they got there.
  • Career Action Plan – The Year 7s have started their Career Action Planning (CAPs). This will be continued next term.

Academic Accomplishments

  • First Exams – I am so proud of the Year 7s for getting through their first exams at WCC. At school we could see many of them using the strategies that they have learnt over the semester.
  • Night at the Museum – The Year 7s have been working tirelessly on their Night at the Museum exhibits. It is awesome to see the families come and join in the learning.

As we wrap up this term, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every member of the Wyndham Central College community. Your support, enthusiasm, and dedication make our school a wonderful place to learn and grow. Enjoy the break, and I look forward to seeing all of our students on time, in uniform and ready to learn next term!
