Athletics Carnival

Friday the 17th of May was one of the most anticipated days on the Tenterfield High School (THS) calendar, the date of the annual THS Athletics Carnival.

Students presented to school in their House colours showing allegiance to their House. Looking over Federation Oval there was a sea of students in Yellow, Blue, Green and Red at the track and field events. The Seniors of 2024 dressed as fictional cartoon characters from the Smurfs. It is a wonderful tradition for the Seniors to choose and dress in a theme that demonstrates that they are unified as a cohort. I am already looking forward to what theme the seniors of 2025 choose.

Student participation during the carnival was at an all-time high, with everyone doing an amazing job on the track and in the field. Some gutsy performances were noted amongst our many fine athletes. Everyone gave their 100% effort and the positive THS spirit was felt throughout the day.

The competition at all events was fierce with each student putting in their best athletic performance for their house. The track events were standouts for student effort, participation and support. The cheering and high fives showcasing just how united students are at THS.

New records were set in the Track events. Congratulations to Elly Butler and Amber Thomas with their record-breaking times. Elly and Amber are now a part of an illustrious group of former THS students. The records are below detailing previous and new records.

Amber Thomas (6.14.30) 2024

A new 100m race, “The Jackson Clarke Memorial Sprint” was added to the program this year honouring our 2024 School Captain, Jackson Clarke. Jackson was an avid 100m sprinter who trained tirelessly to reach the CHS State Athletics Championship. The race had a Boys and a Girls division. The fastest student from each year group and then the next 3 fastest students in each gender were included in the 8-student race. The race was handicapped, and participating students had staggered starting distances. This format made for an exciting race in that students were all crossing the finishing line at the same time. Congratulations to Bryce Riley and Elly Butler who won in the boys and girls races respectively.

A special mention to the students below who received Age Champion and Runners Up positions. The Age Champion points were very close with very few points the difference between Age Champion and Runners up.
