Welcome to our week 6 newsletter - winter has certainly arrived!
I hope you enjoy our feature on the athletics carnival. It was a wonderful day, I could not have been prouder of our student's behaviour, participation and effort - well done everyone! Thank you to Mr Craig Cook and Mrs Amanda Jones whose meticulous organisation resulted in such a well-run carnival. The Jackson Clarke Memorial Sprint was a particularly special moment, and it was wonderful that Jackson's parents, Sue and Michael, were able to present the trophies.
A huge thank you to our local service clubs and volunteers who continue to do so much to support our school. As you will see inside, last month a group of THS teachers participated in the Rotary Trivia competition which raises funds for our students to attend invaluable driver awareness programs. Although we didn't win, we had a great night. Rotary also sponsored Yr 9 student, Tilly Spittles, to attend a Rotary Youth camp. This was a great opportunity for Tilly, and she is looking forward to attending a Rotary meeting with myself to thank them for this wonderful experience. Lions have recently helped with the Yr 12 pie fundraiser and Rotary, Lions and Westpac Helicopter volunteers also supported our canteen at the athletics carnival - thank you!
There continues to be some great changes to the school canteen. Not only do we now have eftpos but we also have an ordering and payment function on our sentral parent app (instructions in this edition). As an incentive, there are weekly meal specials which are only available through this ordering app. The state of origin donuts were a big success and Kim assures me she will make sure she orders more next time as they sold out so quickly! If you are interested in volunteering in the canteen please contact the school, additional support enables us to provide a greater range of delicious food for our students.
This edition we have included a calendar of when assessment tasks are due. This is one of the most common questions I get asked from parents and carers and as a parent myself, I know that teenagers are not always forthcoming with this information! We try to stick to this calendar as much as possible but there are times when there may be unavoidable changes outside our control.
Finally, work on our new security fence begins today and should be finished by the end of next week or soon afterwards. This is a Department of Education funded upgrade to ensure the safety of public schools. There should be minimum disruption to school operations. I hope everyone stays warm and I look forward to updating you soon on a very busy end of Term 2!
