What’s been happening in Years 5 and 6

It may be hard to believe, but it’s true - we’ve made it over the halfway line!

There have been so many exciting things happening for our Year 5 and 6 students this term, we have kicked off the term with a BANG! So many sporting opportunities have been presented to our students this term including the athletics carnival, cross country, netball and soccer. Touch football is coming up this Friday and basketball will be happening in July.

We enjoy our fortnightly visits from Mr McLean who has been helping us to create some 3D masterpieces to be printed on the 3D printer. Our next project is looking at stop motion and using Lego to create our scenes and characters. We will then use these to create stop motion movies using a green screen and audio.

Well done to all of the students who participated in the Premier’s Spelling Bee School Competition. All contestants are to be commended on their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Harrison Trotter who won the Junior Category (Years 3 and 4) and Patrick Maay who took out the Senior Category (Years 5 and 6). Both boys will now participate in the Regional Finals held in August.

We are all looking forward to travelling to Thalgarrah on Thursday. Students will participate in the Kids verses Wild program where they have a chance to develop and hone social and emotional capabilities, including persistence, organisation, getting along and resilience. In this adventure-style program, students are involved in working out bush survival challenges in small groups. Challenges include navigating through the forest using a map, building a shelter and cooking their own lunch. Please remember to pack warm clothing and bring a hat, drink bottle and a snack.
