Prep R

It has been a busy and rewarding time in Prep!

Our Inquiry unit this term is Physical Science and we have been exploring our senses, we are looking at our different senses and how we use them.  Last week we explored light and had the opportunity to be creative, the prep students designed and created an item which produces light. There were so many creative ideas! There were lanterns and torches and even an anglerfish! This week we investigate the sense of smell, using our noses to explore different smells.

We have connected our Inquiry to our Literacy by looking at non fiction texts. We are exploring the different features of a non fiction text such as a contents page, headings, cover pages and photos/diagrams. We are also creating a book on our senses in writing. Our students cannot wait to share these at our learning celebrations at the end of the term!

In Maths, we start each lesson with a math number game. We love to play shake n spill, where we shake a cup of counters and then tip them out to see how many ways we can break up a number. This week our topic is location, we are looking at positional language and showing how we can use it.   Today we looked at placing the teddy on the swing, under the slide, on top of the tree, near the hopscotch and between the small trees.

In Religion, we have learnt about the church and about the parish and school communities. We have read the scripture of the Good Shepherd and how Jesus guides us in everything that we do.  We also reflected on how we can be like the Good Shepherd, what can we do to be a good friend?  Another scripture passage we will explore is the Good Samaritan, which speaks of inclusion and compassion, this ties in with our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus of inclusion.

We were very fortunate to have a Police visit where we learnt about different emergency services in our community this ties in with our RE learning about our community and the role we play in it. It was so fun to try on police uniforms and have a go being fingerprinted as well as visiting the police van!
