Indonesian Consulate Visit

The Indonesian Consulate recently visited the Year 8's

We were incredibly blessed to have 5 members of the Indonesian Consulate visit us for the day. They presented a powerpoint about Indonesia, taught us how to play Angklung and then we all stood up to enjoy a fun activity of Indonesian line dancing! Luar biasa! (Extraordinary!)

Student reflections -

Kiara H:

When the Indonesian people came last month, it was an amazing day. We got to learn traditional dances that were really enjoyable and fun. They had everyone joining in so no one was complaining. We also got the opportunity to play the Angklung. We played Waltzing Matilda and Love Story by Taylor Swift. It was an amazing experience and I would love to do it again next year with our lovely friends!

Year 8 Angklung Performance

At The Recent Assembly – Friday 21 February 2025

As a part of our Indonesian Cultural Studies this term we have been learning to play Angklung. 9 of our students formed an Ensemble and played Dance Monkey at the recent Assembly.

Emily K:

Angklung is one of Indonesia's traditional instruments and it was a joy to represent Indonesia’s culture through music at the Assembly last month. Music is one of my favourite things and it was so cool to experience playing an instrument from a different culture and show others how it's done. Getting dressed up and the sensation of performing is something

I love and being a part of this special performance was a great way to learn more about Indonesia and their traditions.

Olivia P:

Angklung, a traditional instrument from Indonesia. Made from bamboo, finely tuned by hand. It was an amazing experience to be able to get on stage and perform on an instrument from our neighbours.

Isabel S:

I was so excited and a little nervous playing angklung in front of the whole school. But when the bamboo sound rang out and Dance Monkey was taking shape, I just felt even though we might not have been the best angklung band ever, being there, representing Indonesian culture, was enough.
