Preps Meet Their
Year 12 Buddies!
When you think of the word ‘community’ within the MECS context, what comes to mind?
I’m sure activities like time spent with friends in the classroom, or on the sporting field, or in the playground would be foremost in your thinking. Most of these groupings happen quite naturally based on common age and interests.
One such community building activity that you may not have thought of has been happening for over 30 years. MECS has had the tradition of Year 12 students spending time with the Preppies; something that takes intentionality. Every Prep student is buddied up with one of the Year 12s for the duration of the year. This can involve playing a game of snakes and ladders, or free play in the playground, or just reading a story. Though none of these activities are earth shattering in themselves, when people invest time in others it fosters relationships and encourages a sense of belonging. It also promotes humility and selflessness and ultimately reflects God’s heart for people to be more like Jesus.
Thanks Year 12s for your commitment to being ‘community builders’ at MECS.
