Welcoming Advocate in Action: African Drumming Incursion
As part of our whole-school Welcome Week, our Kindergarten children embraced the spirit of being a Welcoming Advocate through an exciting African Drumming incursion with Rhythm of Life. This interactive experience was a joyful way to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the power of music to bring people together.
The Koala group started the session, followed by the Possum group, with each child learning traditional African rhythms, call-and-response songs, and drumming techniques. One of the highlights was when every child had the chance to create their own rhythm for the class to echo—showing respect, collaboration, and encouragement as they listened and responded to one another.
Drumming together was a beautiful expression of community—we used music to build each other up, celebrate different backgrounds, and create a shared experience of joy. As we danced and played in unison, we saw firsthand how rhythm connects us, reminding us of the importance of welcoming others, embracing diversity, and fostering harmony.
This incursion was the perfect way to begin the year with kindness, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging, setting the tone for how we love and care for our neighbours at school. It was a fantastic way to finish Welcome Week!
