Focus On

What is Truth?

In today’s world, truth is often perceived as relative – that we can be whatever we want to be, and that we should pursue whatever we desire. In this environment, it is becoming increasingly important to help young people develop the ability to discern truth. As society at large shifts away from the Judeo-Christian values that once laid the foundation for Australian law and society, the question arises: what is truth?

At MECS, we recognize that this is a challenge. We acknowledge that God's ways are often beyond our understanding (Isaiah 55:8-9). We are reminded that we are called to seek His wisdom to understand what is right, just, and fair (Proverbs 2:6-9). This wisdom, however, will often not align with the messages society tell us (Romans 12:2). Yet, we are urged to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, excellent, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:6-8).

By continually pointing our students back to God’s Word when they are confronted by questionable values, we are training them to become independent truth discerners. It is our deep hope that our students take this life-skill with them, equipped to help others, share Jesus, and navigate the complex tensions of our world. This takes partnership and we look forward to continuing to partner with you as we have the conversations and role model this behaviour.
