Phys Ed Update
The P–2 students have been working on their locomotor skills and learning minor games. The main focus has been taking turns and playing fairly. We have also introduced a few minor activities to promote tracking of moving objects.
In the last couple of weeks the Year 3-6 students have started their unit on fitness. Some classes were also lucky enough to participate in hockey clinics run by the Greensborough Hockey Club. All students will get to have a go at these activities during week 5 & 6.

Science
Hello from the Science Room,
It’s been a very busy couple of weeks of investigating. It has been wonderful to see classes ready and eager to participate in activities. The enthusiasm is contagious!
It was hard to choose this week’s Students (Class) of the Week because I have been blown away by the excitement students have had for their activities. The class I have nominated always come in quickly, sits down straight away and are ready to learn. I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but they have been wonderful role models for other year levels.
In Science this week, Foundation students have enjoyed deciphering which habitats would suit various animals. The Grade 1 students explored animal mouths and the ways they help with survival. In Grade 2, the students designed protections from the Sun and searched for insulating materials (don’t let heat or cold through). The Grade 3⁄4 students are working on spinners and next week they will experiment with their creations, with the aim that they use their new understanding to improve the design, or to invent something new. The5/6 s have worked to identify the properties of acids, through reactions with household substances. Happy investigating all!
Have a great couple of weeks!
Visual Arts – Junior
Here are some happy snaps from the art room this week where we have been working on line, colour and shape. Happy weekend 😊
Visual Arts – Senior
Grades 3 & 4:
The art room has been a busy place so far in 2025. We have practiced our art room rules and routines and created covers for our new art journals. The students in Grade 3 & 4 have been reviewing their knowledge of colour theory, including warm and cool colours and how to mix colours. We have learnt the difference between primary and secondary colours and had a go at making secondary colours from primary colours.
Grades 5 & 6:

We have also learnt about complementary colours and how they work together.
Congratulations to the Visual Arts Captains Kasia, Chelsea, Elle and Macy and to the Photography captains Oliver, Lucas, Shae and Iyla who received their badges at assembly last Friday.

Foundation:
Our youngest musicians have been having a fantastic fortnight exploring the world of music! They’ve been busy learning fun action songs, developing their rhythmic skills through percussion instruments and body percussion and developing in the art of staying "on the beat." They're already shining stars, confidently playing instruments when their instrument is called upon, speeding up and slowing down their playing with the beat and showing great rhythmic control. A special highlight has been learning and rehearsing our end-of-term celebration songs: "Mr. Sun" and "Speckled Frog."
Level 1 & 2:
Levels 1 and 2 have continued their musical adventures, learning new songs and exploring a range of percussion instruments – including their own bodies! Students have shown impressive creativity, devising their own interesting body percussion actions and sharing their rhythmic creations with their classmates.
Achievements:
Our Level 1&2 students are blossoming musically, demonstrating skills such as improvising dance moves to the beat, singing the "Speckled Frog" song, performing its body percussion sequence, creating original body percussion movements and even copying their partner’s patterns, while keeping the beat.
Looking Ahead (Next Two Weeks):
Our focus over the next couple of weeks will be on:
· Creating individual percussion sequences for the "Speckled Frog" song.
· Collaborating with partners to develop unique body percussion sequences.
· Ensuring we maintain a steady beat when practising our percussion sequence.
· Recording our groups percussion sequences for the "Speckled Frog" song using pictorial representations of each body percussion movement.
· Rehearsing the "Speckled Frog" song (singing and body percussion).
· Collaborating with another group to build more complex and exciting body percussion piece.
· Performing our creations in front of our class.
I am incredibly proud of all our students' hard work and enthusiasm! Well done!

Senior Performing Arts – Fortnightly Update
Grades 3 & 4:
The students in Grade 3 & 4 have been very busy practicing their rhythm notation knowledge on various percussion instruments. They have been playing along to music videos that also have our notations on the whiteboard screen, while keeping in tempo as a whole class. Each student has been playing one of the five instruments; bongo drums, triangle, claves, tambourine and castanets. All classes have now moved onto composing their very own rhythm notations in pairs. Once they have written their own music, they will practise playing together as a duo on their chosen percussion instrument. They will be performing their composition in front of the class in the weeks to come.
Grades 5 & 6:
The students in Grade 5 & 6 have been busy working on their Music Projects for Term 1. Students are either in pairs or solo completing their research about the music culture from selected countries, with some being China, Japan, Indonesia, Greece, Italy and France. The students are discovering traditional instruments and music genres that originate from that country, as well as famous festivals, musicians and dancing customs. Their presentations to their class will commence in week 8, with students excitedly also showcasing music samples from their country, alongside their Keynote presentations.
It’s been wonderful to see everyone settled and enjoying their Performing Arts lessons so far this year. Great start!
Congratulations to the four Performing Arts Captains also, who received their badges at assembly last Friday.

Library
The Preps, Year 1s and Year 2s have been doing a wonderful job in the Library!
P-2 classes have been reading stories that explore themes of kindness, friendship and empathy. In Prep we read ‘We are all kind’ and shared ways in which we can all show kindness to each other.
In Year 1 we read ‘All the ways to be kind’ and listened to many ways that we can treat others with kindness and how we could do this at school. These Year 1 superstars each added a heart to our display to show others who come to visit the library how we can be great friends.
The Year 2s read, ‘12 Days of Kindness’. This story explored how being the new kid can be challenging but how a little kindness from just one person can grow into a wonderful friendship. The characters wanted to share this with their team with the 12 days of kindness. The Year 2s worked together to create a kindness quilt for everyone to see when they come to the Library.
