Year 2 - Newsletter

Dear Year 2 parents & guardians,

 

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 1. The weeks are flying by, and it has been wonderful witnessing the class settling in and working hard. Our class routines are solidifying and we have seen fantastic progress in our rooms already.

 

What we’ve been up to in Year 2:

  • Revisiting the Zones of Regulation
  • Working hard in literacy by revising Stage 7 Little Learners phonemes (sounds - oral) and graphemes (letters that represent the sounds - written), and exploring when and why we use certain sounds in spelling.
  • Exploring texts in depth and detail, making connections and using them to assist us in writing recounts.
  • Looking at place value in our maths lessons. Exploring two and three digit numbers, renaming and ordering.
  • Discussing how our lives are different from, or similar to, the lives of our grandparents when they were our age.

Reminders:

  • Bundoora Farm excursion: please see Compass for details, permission and payment (Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers that have already volunteered)
  • Readers are coming home, please try to read every night.
  • Show and Tell: please check your child’s day to present.
  • Hats: Term 1 is a hat term, so please check your child has their hat at school
  • Last week your child brought home a letter they had written to their special person, please return their reply as soon as possible.
  • Mathletics tasks are set every Tuesday. These are optional, but a great way of consolidating skills learned in class.
  • There are a number of bugs going around at the moment. Please be mindful of this and if your child is unwell keep them home.
