Year 1 News

This term, our Year 1 students are learning about place value in numeracy! One of the key concepts we are focusing on is how ten ones make one ten—a fundamental idea that helps children build a strong understanding of numbers.

Through hands-on activities, students are:

  • learning that numbers are made up of tens and ones (e.g., 10 ones = 1 ten)

  • practicing breaking numbers into tens and ones (e.g., 23 = 2 tens and 3 ones)

  • using different objects and visuals to group and count efficiently

  • developing confidence in reading, writing, and comparing numbers

A strong understanding of place value will help students develop confidence in addition, subtraction, and problem-solving skills in the future. We encourage plenty of practice, fun, and hands-on learning throughout our numeracy lessons.
