Year 6 Empathy Lesson: The Ripple Effect of Kindness
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share that our Year 6 students will be engaging in a special lesson on empathy and kindness this week. Through thought-provoking videos and discussions, students will explore the ripple effect of kindness—how small acts of empathy can create positive change in their communities.
As part of this lesson, students will reflect on real-life scenarios and work together to identify barriers to kindness and empathy. They will then devise strategies to overcome these challenges, helping to foster a more inclusive and compassionate environment at school and beyond.
We encourage you to continue this conversation at home by discussing moments of kindness in your daily lives and exploring ways to support one another with empathy.
Thank you for your support in nurturing a culture of kindness!
In this third week of the Resilience Project we have learnt about ripples of kindness and empathy. What that means, is that a small act of kindness creates a chain of good deeds that comes back to you.
Our teacher showed us that when you drop a rock it creates ripples of kindness all around, but when there is a barrier placed in between each side only one side has ripples of kindness, while the other side doesn't. We learnt how there can be walls blocking us from showing empathy and kindness and ways that you can overcome these barriers.

In this fourth week of the resilience project we learnt about empathy and oxytocin. What That Means, is that oxytocin is a “feel good” Chemical. We directly connect empathy and oxytocin by displaying different ways we can show empathy to cause oxytocin to be released in another person.
For our lesson we wrote down three ways we can show and give empathy in the, give one section, and how those actions show empathy to others which in return could cause their brains to release oxytocin. After, we wrote 3 things our other classmates had that can release oxytocin in the get one section.

As part of our wellbeing work this year, our students and teachers have been creating Joy BOTS—small, creative robots designed to spread happiness, positivity, and kindness throughout our school community. Each Joy BOT is unique, decorated with uplifting messages, bright colors, and thoughtful details to bring a smile to everyone who sees them.
These wonderful creations will soon be part of a whole-school display, and we can’t wait to share them with you! Keep an eye out for this special showcase, celebrating joy, creativity, and the importance of wellbeing in our school.
