Year 3 & 4

Around our level

A Week of Learning and Growth!

Over the past few weeks, it  has been wonderful to see the students in Years 3 and 4 embracing new challenges, showing resilience, and engaging in a variety of new and rewarding learning experiences.

Year 3 – NAPLAN Superstars!

Our Year 3 students have participated in their NAPLAN assessments, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. These assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning in reading, writing, conventions of language, and numeracy. While tests can sometimes feel a little daunting, our Year 3s approached each session with a positive mindset and a ‘can-do’ attitude. They showed great perseverance, took their time, and gave each question their best effort.

Year 4 – Choice in Reading!

While the Year 3s were busy with NAPLAN, our Year 4 students were fully immersed in a variety of reading activities designed to spark their interest and deepen their comprehension skills. One of the most exciting aspects of this week has been the opportunity for students to make choices in their reading tasks. They have loved selecting from a wide range of activities, including book reviews and recommendations, creative writing responses inspired by their favourite stories, artistic representations of characters, settings and covers, and the exploration of different genres and authors

By allowing students to have choice in their learning, we have seen a real boost in their engagement and enthusiasm. Many students have enjoyed discovering books they may not have picked up otherwise, and it has been a joy to watch them share their excitement with their classmates. The discussions and reflections around their reading have been thoughtful and insightful, showing just how much they are developing as independent learners.

Student Thoughts

I enjoyed that we got to make a poster for a book that we were reading but we could make it funnier by changing things up.

- Isla A (3/4A)

We got to draw and write about our favourite books and authors. It was fun because we got to do activities with the other grade 4’s.

- Eddie S (3/4A)

There were so many things that we could do and it was lots of fun writing and drawing about lots of stuff.

- Raghav S (3/4A)

Today’s reading was fun. I like that when we have lots of choices it is easier to pick. There are things I can choose that I really like to do.

- Blade D (3/4B)

I liked the drawing activity. I was drawing my favourite parts of the book which were the animals.

- Trinity G (3/4B)

I liked how we had choices. You can choose things you  really like to do and not have to do the things I don't like to do.

- Jasmine L (3/4B)
