Around Our Level
This week in Prep we have been revising our SATPIND letters and sounds using cued articulation. We have been practising the ‘heart words’ ('I', 'a', 'and', 'said', and 'the'). Our students have been very excited to take home their decodable readers and completing their homework tasks. Our Preps last week had their very first school photos. There were lots of big smiles!
In Maths, we have been learning about substituting and recognising number arrangements using familiar patterns and pictures. This means knowing the number, rather than counting each dot on a dice or card. This week we have been looking at collecting data and different types of graphs, such as picture graphs, bar graphs, and column graphs. We have been learning how to sort items into different groups. We have been learning about tally marks and asking yes/no questions to collect information, such as 'Do you have a pet?', 'Do you like ice-cream?', and 'Do you have blue eyes?'.
In History, we have been learning about different cultural celebrations, such as birthdays, Australia Day, Easter, and Chinese New Year. Our students enjoyed making ‘red lanterns’, which represent good luck and good fortune. We learned about the Zodiacs and that this year is the year of the snake.
In Geography, we have been learning about special features of places, such as the beach, school, park, and shops. Different environments have different features, which make them unique and special.
Next week we are looking forward to ‘House Colour Day’ on Monday. After assembly, students will group into their house teams (Wilson, Gatter, Power, and Turner) and will cheer and get excited in preparation for our whole school Cross Country at Lilydale Lake.
A big thank you to all our Easter egg donations from our Prep families. Raffle tickets for the Easter Raffle have been handed out this week. Thank you also to our hard-working Parents Association for organising this event. The raffle will be drawn on the final assembly of term. All funds raised go directly to the school in supporting our Chrome Book Program. We are very fortunate at Yarra Road to have access to one-to-one devices throughout the school.
Students are nominated by their teachers to receive a certificate of acknowledgment. The below students' certificates will be presented at our next assembly.
Prep A - Mrs Cooper
