Week 6, Term 1
*Artwork created in Terms 1, 2 and 3 by all year levels, will be collected and stored at school until our artshow later in the year (excluding a gift from each child for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day).

Prep
Students will put their self-portrait artwork together this week and add rainbow squares around the perimeter. They will also glaze their ceramic pinch pot.
Grade 1
Students will begin looking at the Australian artist Anna Blatman. They will paint the background for their ‘Country House’ painting focussing on composition and colour choice.
Grade 2
Students will continue their art work inspired by Australian artist Ken Done. They will add ink and salt to the top of their coral work from last week to create the effect of water. They will also be glazing their seahorses and adding ‘seaweed’ to their background.
Grade 3 and 4
Students will sculpt a person out of plasticine to lay on their beach towel from last week. They will also begin their Mother’s Day gift.
Grade 5
Students will continue their textiles unit around Australian artist Pete Cromer’s bird art. This week they will finish the blanket stitching and begin to stuff their bird and sew it together. They will also glaze their clay alpacas.
Grade 6
Students will be finishing their felted Australian landscape and framing it ready for the art show. They will also be starting their Mother’s Day gift.
Prep
Students are further developing their learning on tempo (fast and slow) and pitch (high and low). They will be also be experiencing and categorising dynamics of music/sounds as soft or loud. Students will explore the sounds/music through listening and movement. Throughout all of their learning they will continue practising the skill of keeping the beat.
Grade 1 and 2
Students are continuing to learn about beat and rhythm. Grade 1 students are continuing to recognise and practise the parts in the rhythm pattern taa taa ti-ti taa over a steady beat. They will also revise their understanding of high and low sounds in preparation for learning in future weeks. Grade 2 students are creating their own rhythms to fit with a piece of music using the note types and rhythms we have worked on in previous weeks. They will also work on their listening skills by identifying rhythm patterns.
Grade 3 and 4
Students are continuing to learn about the ukulele. They will continue to practise open notes and the C and Am Chords. Students will practise moving between these 2 chords, and play along to music with what they know. They will also be introduced to another chord in F, which will require them to use 2 fingers on the fret board.
Grade 5 and 6
Students will be provided with music and tracks for a Matilda Jr. audition which we will practise with. They will also begin work on a short composition for a glockenspiel, xylophone or keyboard using the treble clef, which will bring together their learning from the previous weeks.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will consider the basic needs of plants to create something to support their growth in our school. This may be information on caring for plants for other students, or an invention to prevent damage to the plants.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will look at the life cycle of an interesting plant with a unique seed dispersal technique or growth pattern. They will present their understanding of these life cycles with either illustrations or photographs.
Grade 5 & 6:
This week, students will finish building a model of their chosen habitat. They will include information about how living things have adapted to survive in their specific habitat.
