NAPLAN
Next week marks the beginning of the NAPLAN.
Next week, our Year 3 and Year 5 students will be participating in NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy). NAPLAN is a nationwide assessment that helps track student progress in reading, writing, language conventions, and numeracy. It provides valuable insights into student learning and helps schools to refine teaching and support strategies.
During the testing period, which takes place in the mornings between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, we kindly ask all students and parents move quietly through the school to minimise disruptions. This ensures that our Year 3 and 5 students can focus and do their best in a calm and supportive environment.
For parents of Year 3 and 5 students, we encourage you to support your child by ensuring they get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school on time. NAPLAN is designed to give a snapshot of where students are in their learning journey—it is not a pass or fail test, and we encourage students to simply do their best.
If you have any questions about NAPLAN or your child’s participation, please don’t hesitate to speak with their teacher.
Save the Date – Family Fun Afternoon!
We are excited to invite all families to our Family Fun Afternoon on Thursday 27th March from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families, enjoy some great activities, and simply have a good time together.
There will be fun activities for students (and siblings), a sausage sizzle, and plenty of great conversation. Bring along a picnic rug or some portable chairs, and—weather permitting—we will enjoy a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon/early evening together.
We would love to see as many of you there as possible, so mark the date in your calendar and join us for an afternoon of fun and community connection.
School Council Nominations – Closing Soon!
A reminder that School Council nominations close on 13th March.
Joining our School Council is a fantastic way to contribute to the school community and make a real impact on students' learning and wellbeing. The School Council helps shape the school’s direction, provides valuable input on policies and programs, and supports decision-making to benefit all students.
No special skills are required—just a willingness to collaborate, share ideas, and work towards the best outcomes for our students. Parent (and community) voices are incredibly important, and your perspective can help strengthen our school.
If you’re interested in joining or would like to learn more, please contact the school office. We’d love to have you involved!
Bunnings BBQ
Thank you to all of those wonderful volunteers who gave up some of their weekend to come and help us at the Bunnings BBQ fundraiser. It was a great chance to put our school in front of the community and ‘kick off’ our fundraising efforts.
Shop for Your School Competition
We are excited to announce our participation in Eastland's Shop for Your School competition, where local schools have the chance to win a share of $18,000. By shopping at participating retailers within Eastland Shopping Centre, you can earn points for our school.
Last year, our school achieved remarkable success by finishing 2nd in the competition, earning a $7,000 prize. This funding was used to build the Gaga Pit, a project chosen by our students, which has since become a popular addition to our playground.
We encourage all families to support our school by shopping at participating Eastland stores during the competition period – I will be!
The competition runs from the 11th of March to 8th of April. Let’s see if we can do it again!

Information Night – Spread the Word!
We will be holding an Information Night for prospective families on Tuesday, 2nd April at 6:00 pm (during the last week of term).
This is a great opportunity for families considering Marlborough Primary School to learn more about our programs, values, and community. If you know of anyone looking for a school, please pass on the details - we’d love to welcome them on the night!
Working Bee – 15th March
We are excited for our next Working Bee on Friday, 15th March, starting at 2:00 pm and running for a few hours. If you have any time to spare—whether it’s 30 minutes or a couple of hours—we would love to have your help!
This time around, we’ll be putting in new garden edging, spreading soil and mulch, and getting things ready for some fresh new plants to brighten up the front of the school.
It’s a great chance to contribute to our school environment while connecting with other families. We appreciate any support you can offer and look forward to seeing you there!
Parking – Kiss and Drop Zone Reminder
A reminder to all families to please keep this front section of the school parking area as a Kiss and Drop Zone.
A Kiss and Drop Zone is a designated area where drivers can pull in, let students out safely, and drive off without parking or leaving their vehicle. This helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and reduces congestion, making it safer for students to cross the road. If you would like to park, could you please use the parking spaces that are located beyond the staff car parking area.
We appreciate everyone’s support in using this area correctly - it makes a big difference in keeping our school community safe!
Enjoy the upcoming long weekend.
Warmly,
Tim Mulhall
