From The Team

I was absolutely blown away with how the Foundation students conducted themselves at their Induction Ceremony last Friday. The students listened to all instructions given to them very carefully, and spoke confidently about themselves into the microphone in front of a large audience. They laughed with their buddies during the making of their special crowns, and eagerly engaged with parents and visitors during our afternoon tea.

Harmony Week

Harmony Week begins on Monday and celebrates all the ways in which Australia is a multicultural country, and how different cultures work together to create communities. Australia is a very diverse country, and Harmony Week aims to celebrate this! The Foundation students will be involved with different activities during the week and, on Thursday students are  allowed to wear orange or their traditional dress which will be showed off during the parade at assembly that morning at 9.00am.

Swimming Program

The F-4 swimming program is in 2 weeks and the students are telling me that they are very excited to go on the bus and ‘play’ in the pool. As well as the swimming element, the experience of getting undressed and dressed helps with their independence and organisation. Please help your child prepare by encouraging them to:

- practise putting on and taking off their shoes and socks

- drying themselves with a towel after a bath or shower

- packing and unpacking their own swimming bag

Independence in the morning 

I am beginning to encourage independence in the morning by asking the students to carry their own bag into the classroom and unpack their belongings. Parents are more than welcome to still come in with their child, but please encourage them to be responsible for their own bag, communication folder and drink bottle.

What We Are Learning

Reminders

• Communication folders: Please remember to bring these to and from school each day.

• High Frequency Words: Help your child to practise their high frequency words each night. They are stored in their blue folder in their communication folder.

• Yellow Reading Log: Record your child’s nightly reading.

• Library Bags: Students will need to bring a library bag to school and may borrow one book per week. Thursday is our level’s library borrowing day.

• Art Smocks: Please bring an art smock to school if you haven’t already.
