The Age Schools that Excel Award

McClelland College was honoured to win The Age Schools that Excel Award for 2023. This award recognises schools that achieve outstanding improvement in their VCE results over a decade, specifically in terms of median study score, student completion and scores above 40.  While the ATAR is by no means the be all and end all, studies have shown that the more qualified an individual becomes, the more opportunities they have to succeed later in life.  The entire VCE teaching and support team are thrilled to receive this recognition of our hard work and dedication.  We look forward to seeing the Class of 2023 build on this amazing success over the remainder of the year!

Holiday Practice Exams

With the end of year exams fast approaching, students enrolled in a Unit 3 / 4 subject will soon be starting their revision.  One key pillar of this preparation is the Term Three Holiday Practice Exams which occurs during the second week of the school holidays.  These exams are held in the PAC in order for students to become familiar and comfortable with their surroundings in preparation for the end of year.  Teachers will also be able to provide students with invaluable feedback regarding what areas they need to improve on in order to maximise their results.  The table below outlines when students are expected to be on site to participate in the exams.  All students enrolled in a scored Unit 3 / 4 subject are expected to attend the sessions.

Unit 3 / 4 Exams

And just like that, our Class of 2023 will be sitting their end of year exams and completing their journeys at McClelland College.  Students have been provided with their Exam Navigators outlining when they are expected to sit their finals.  Another copy of the schedule can be found at the VCE Examination Website.  These exams are compulsory for all students completing a scored Unit 3 / 4 subject to attend, and will be held in the PAC.  Full school uniform is required for all exams.  We wish all of our students all the very best as they embark on this epic journey!

Unit 1 / 2 Exams

Our Year 11 students will not miss out on the fun of exams, with the Unit 1 / 2 schedule outlined below.  All students completing a Unit 1 / 2 subject are required to attend the exams on the following dates.  Normal VCE classes will not be running during this time period, with students only required at school when they are completing an exam.  All of these sessions will take place in the Senior Centre.  Full school uniform is required for all exams.

College Musical

Well done to all of the students (particularly our VCE students) for their participation in the College Production of Annie Junior!  The team worked tirelessly to produce an amazing performance, showcasing the exemplary acting, dancing, singing and musical abilities of our school.

Voice to Parliament Information Session

A special thanks to two of our College leaders in Carla Azzopardi and Stephanie Armstrong who both presented at the Voice to Parliament information session held at the College and hosted by Federal Member Peta Murphy.  Carla and Steph read aloud the Uluru Statement from the Heart to begin proceedings, before assisting Peta with the evening.  Thank you to both girls for their active participation in the night!  It is inspiring to see the next generation of leaders taking such a passionate and robust interest in both politics and social justice!

Staff vs Student Events

Our Year 12 team had an outstanding win in the annual Staff versus Student Debate held during Book Week.  Arguing that street smarts were more important than book smarts, Matilda Forsyth, Dayna Corkery and Carla Azzopardi were able to justify, rationalise and ultimately outplay the teachers.  Despite some passionate arguments put forth by Senora Sproule (who was incidentally awarded speaker of the day), Mr Foley and My Joy, the decision was unanimous to award the day to the students.  A special thanks to our judging panel made up of Year 12 Stephanie Trott and Ms Italia also.

The final event for Term Three was the hotly contested football match.  With both teams fielding strong sides, early predictions were for a physical contest and a close game.  This attacking attitude was exemplified by Jeremy Gregory’s bone-crushing tackle on an unsuspecting Mr Hemsley in the opening minutes, as well as Mr Carlton’s brutal takedown of Alex Noble on the wing.  The students performed strongly from the centre square though, with AFLW hopeful Mikayla Williamson, Xavier Fillis and Cohen Lee performing strongly from the bounce.  This momentum was soon halted however as the experience of the teachers team shone forth, namely led by Mr Nicholls and Mr Kight in the middle, and the crafty Ms Phillips, Mr Lojanica and Mr Colquhoun-Matthews up forward.  Despite the pre-service teachers switching to the students team at halftime, the teachers ended up winners, running away with the match 63 to 15.  Cohen Lee was named player of the match for the students, while Mr Colquhoun-Matthews was best afield for the teachers.
