Senior School update

It’s been another busy term in Senior School, and our Year 11s and 12s should be incredibly proud of themselves.  In many ways Term 3 is the most difficult term, with what feels like endless SACs and studying in a backdrop of cold and rainy days, but spring is now here and for our Year 12s, SACs are over.  It’s the beginning of the end of their time at school.

Many exciting events and lots of planning has been done in Senior School this term.  Year 11s selected their courses for next year, and our Year 12s have been busy planning their futures beyond Box Hill High School in one-on-one appointments with members of our careers team.

Our senior students really did take centre stage at Box Hill High School’s annual talent show.  Dance groups WSND and PinkBlack delivered us polished and captivating routines, while Mary Z’s covers of Taylor Swift sounded just like Taylor herself.  Our resident rock bank made up of Issey, Archie, Lockie and Ethan had audiences cheering for more. Ultimately PinkBlack took out first place, beating all other acts across the school.

We’re very excited to announce that Central Australia camp will be going ahead next year, with 40 students and four staff ready to spend nine memorable nights travelling through some of Australia’s most beautiful scenery.  We hope that this becomes an annual event for Year 11 students.

I would also like to congratulate our Year 12s on such a productive term.  For the first time in many years we ran our Skills Booster program, for which we had up to 70 students attending voluntary lunchtime study skills sessions.  We also had a huge take-up of “Boost Your Frees,” with countless students collecting Unit 3 (semester 1) practice exams to complete in their study periods.  Their perseverance and determination this term has been so admirable, and it is sure to be reflected in their success at the end of the year.

These holidays may not be holidays in the truest sense of the word, particularly for Year 12s, who have the perfect opportunity to really consolidate everything they have learnt in this jam-packed year.  Get ahead of your revision by attending lectures, working on your own revision notes, or by studying with friends.  But also ensure you recharge; the holidays are still an opportunity to have a break from classes, a few sleep ins, and to spend some quality time away from school with friends and family.

On behalf of the Senior Team, we wish our senior students the best of luck with their practice exams and their real exams, and we look forward to celebrating with all of our Year 12 families at the Valedictory evening on Friday 17 November.

Year 11 Student Achievements

  • At the recently concluded 2023 Australian Schools Boxing Championships held in Adelaide, Annanya M. won Gold and is now the new 57 KG Women’s Junior Australian Boxing Champion. She received full points in each of the three rounds and won convincingly by a 5:0 unanimous decision. Annanya had worked exceptionally hard to achieve this result without compromising with her studies. She has done us all very proud.
  • Ana Carolina P.  has been selected for the U17 Girls Victoria Volleyball team to represent Victoria at the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships that will take place in September. This is a very prestigious selection within the Volleyball community, allowing her to play at a national level.
  •  Eshani A. and Nelini G. represented Australia in the Model UN.
