Year 8 Soccer
The Year 8 boys soccer team journeyed to Ballarat prepared to fight it out for the GWR flag and to progress to state finals.
The boys first match against Baimbridge College commenced with early dominance of the game Jordan Kelly scored before Baimbridge kicked one into the net just before half time. Another dominant second half followed with Jordan scoring his second goal, but again Baimbridge were able to equalise and the match tied at 2-2.
Our second match was against Mercy Regional, with Trinity needing to win by four goals or more to qualify for the final. The boys played really well and were able to win 6-0, with goals being scored by Goanar (2), George, Jordan, Reagan and Izaac.
We made it through to the final, with state finals on the line. Our opponent was Ararat and both teams were very evenly matched with half time scores level at 0-0. However, in the second half Trinity would have the wind advantage. Ararat scored first and with only a minute to go Trinity was awarded a free kick 30 metres from goal. Goanar stepped up and with a devastating kick was able to beat the keeper and level the scores 1-1.
Scores stayed this way until the final whistle, which meant we were headed for a penalty shoot out. Goanar and George scored with their first two kicks, but Reagan missed. At 2-3 down, we were going to need something special from our keeper. Jordan was able to score his goal, before keeper Toby saved Ararat’s next penalty to make it 3-3 with both teams each having one kick left. Izaac stepped up and drilled home his goal, making it 4-3, before Toby made another incredible save to secure victory for Trinity. The crowd went wild!
It was a great day out with all the boys contributing well and showing great teamwork and sportsmanship.
