Winter appeal and Trinity Day news

2024 Winter Appeal

On Thursday 17 August, Trinity held its annual Vinnies Winter Appeal, which aims to raise awareness about the plight of the homeless and those sleeping rough in our community.

Trinity College is proud of our association with Colac's St Vincent de Paul Society and we run specific fundraising events to support their Winter Appeal and Christmas Appeal each year.

This year, each student was asked to donate either an item of warm clothing, or a non-perishable food item. The response from our community was extraordinary! Thank you to everyone for their support – all items have now been collected and taken for distribution to those in need.

The support for St Vincent de Paul is part of the College’s social justice program and supports the values of the school to help make the world a better place.

Trinity Day Celebrations

Over the final days of the school term next week, we will celebrate Trinity College its history, its achievements, and its unique place in the heart and soul of Colac.

During Lesson 2 on Wednesday 13 September, the entire school will gather for a liturgy service that will explore the Trinity College story. This ceremony will conclude with Father Michael blessing our Year 12 students and will also feature the commissioning service of the 2024 Student Leaders.

During Lessons 4-5 on Thursday 14 September, a fete will be held on the oval and areas surrounding the Jubilee Centre and Resource Centre. The SRC, along with a team of staff, have worked hard on the day's program throughout this term, which will include games, competitions, food stalls, and a barbecue.

Students are encouraged to bring about $20 worth of gold coins for the day, and to dress up in this year's theme: Movie and TV Characters.

All funds raised on the day will be shared between four valuable causes:

Rice - Edmund Rice Camps

For more than 40 years, Edmund Rice Camps Victoria have provided residential camp experiences for young people and families facing adversity. Developed and grown in Melbourne, Eddie Rice Camps have spread across the world and continue to provide an opportunity for intense relationship and confidence building through a 1:1 ratio of participants to volunteers.

McAuley - Mercy Foundation

The Mercy Foundation was established by the Sisters of Mercy, North Sydney 1990. It is an organisation committed to social justice and structural change with the goal of creating greater social equity and inclusion in the Australian community. The Mercy Foundation addresses its social justice agenda through seed funding, advocacy and education.

MacKillop - MacKillop Family Services

MacKillop Family Services began on 1 July 1997, but its history extends back more than 150 years, when the Sisters of Mercy, Christian Brothers and Sisters of St Joseph began their work in Australia, establishing homes for children who were orphaned, destitute or neglected and for families in need of care and support.

Glowrey - St Vincent de Paul Society (Colac)

The St Vincent de Paul Society was founded in 1833 and is made up of thousands of people who every day share their time, care for humanity and energy to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people all around Australia. Their volunteers respond to the call to feed, clothe, house and assist our brothers and sisters who are forced onto the margins of society.

Trinity Day is an opportunity to commemorate what makes our College unique, especially the heritage that underpins our College.

All students and staff can look forward to a wonderful celebration in our final days of the term.
