Stage 2

A message from Stage 2

Stage 2 has done so much this term already. Thank you to the parents and carers who came to our learning showcases. We hope you enjoyed seeing your child's work and seeing how proud they are of what they've achieved.

The students had a fabulous time at camp. We are sure there were lots of stories told when they arrived home. Here are a few in case you missed them:

Treetops

Hooray! A zipline! I can’t forget to put my pulley on. Whoopee! Phew! Mr Pryce caught me. What's next? Oh, it looks alright, but I hope the next challenge is a bit harder. A couple of minutes later…. Oh Great! Misaki is stuck and so am I. ‘Okay Misaki, we are going to do this together. So, you can hang onto the rope and I will put the pulley on. Go Misaki!’ Now it’s my go. Oh no, I’m stuck. ‘Mr Pryce, I’m stuck!’. ‘Okay, I’ll be there in a minute’.

Sensing the Rainforest

Who turned off the lights? My partner led me to the plant. He goes left and then right and even backwards. I reach out my hand. It feels small and skinny. Then off we set on our journey back to the table. He takes me back a different way back I think. ‘We’re here,’ he says as he takes off my blindfold. I lead him back to what I thought was the plant. It was! Flynn H

Dorrigo National Park

When I was at the Dorrigo National Park I for some reason felt unusually safe, calm and relaxed. We were in the first explorer's group soon. When we did I felt the cold breeze and the fresh smell and even tasted the moist air. It was fresh and smooth on my tongue. I could see green all around me. There was a hint of light when I looked up. I felt so relaxed that I thought I could sleep there.

Camp

On the way to Coffs Harbour Adventure Centre, we stopped at the Dorrigo National Park and did a few activities. Then we went to Treetops and it was scary and fun at the same time. After that we rode on the bus again, then we went to the Coffs Harbour Adventure Centre. We had dinner and told stories around the campfire, had a shower and went to bed. When we woke up we chatted for a little while and got up and got dressed. After that, we played Basket Ball. When we went and travelled to Coffs Harbour it was the 26.7.23, we stayed until the 27.7.23. We went with half of Stage 2. I liked it the most when we went to the Dolphin Marine Life Conservation Park and saw the baby turtles ad peacocks. I loved it when I was on the ground from Treetops. I also liked the porpoise pool with the dolphins. I didn't like when the people kept being loud and no one could go to sleep. I learned that it is very hard to sleep with noisy people in your cabin! -

Camp

On the way to Coffs Harbour, we went to Dorrigo National Park. We also went to Treetops and then we went to where we were staying, it was so much fun. On the second day, we went to the Aqua Marine Conversation Park.

Highlights:

Aqua Marine Conversation Park

Staying up all night

Going to the hotel and seeing everything

Lowlights:

Not being able to reach things at Treetops

Something I learned:

That you can find red things in the rainforest.

TreeTops

My heart pounded with excitement as my knees wobbled with fear. The strong smell of leaves tickled my nose while zooming ziplines echoed around the treetops. I glanced down at the damp ground and the tall menacing ladder. There was no turning back. I slid the piece of equipment on, which seemed to glide on more quickly than expected. I marched forward, up to the ladder. I clung to the timber rope, my hands trembling. I took a high step onto the first rung. I was on.

TreeTops

My legs shivered as I climbed up the wobbly, unstable ladder. My hands nearly slipped. Inside my head was screaming like a sick bird. I could feel the cold, thin rope that held me from falling.

Dorrigo National Park

The warm humid air wrapped around me like a silk blanket. Fungi swarmed rotting tree branches as the screeches of exotic birds echoed through the misty canopy. Enormous stinging trees (dendrocnide excelsa) bristled with microscopic needles while morning dew danced along their saturated leaves. Rays of golden sunlight ricocheted off the glossy leaf litter smothering the forest floor.
